What 3rd Gen had h-shifter and manual front differential?

I am wanting to buy another 4Runner, but with manual hubs and the h-shifter transfer case. I don't want electronic or vacuum bs in the drive train.

Seems Craigslist is loaded with potential if I can narrow down the yrs that have what I want.

Never seen the h shift, just the j shift. And AFAIK manual hubs only came on tacomas.. if you want a manual shift case your looking for 96-00 sr5 or base models

What's an H shifter? You mean J shift?

No 3rd gen came with manual hubs. You can convert to Tacoma hubs (Singtoe has a thread), or just engage the diff and lock the actuator in place and forget out it.

My 2000 Limited has a manual transfer case too.

It may be a J shifter, but I swore the service tech at my Toyota dealer said H shift pattern is what I wanted and the manual transfer case and hubs without the vacuum/electronic mechanisms. I plan to run a locker in the front and rear and he said I could run it with one hub unlocked and it would act like an open differential.

He has his 2004 Tacoma set up like this, he has even deleted the ABS module on his. Which after this ice and snow we had the last 2 days, I like the idea of.

I also may even convert my 1999 4Runner, since I am in so cheap and the transmission and engine run strong.

It's a J-Shift transfer case that you want if you're after simplicity, a 96-98 3rd gen base model like mine would get you no ABS, manual transmission and a J-Shift T-case, but in order to get manual hubs on teh front of a 3rd gen 4Runner, you will have to find all the tacoma parts.
