Here's what ~$8K in damage looks like to a 2020 TRD ORP looks like. My wife's 4Runner was t-boned by a teenager blindly pulling out of a CVS parking lot. It was a low speed impact but still did some rather expensive damage. No one was hurt thankfully.

What's needed:

- New front passenger door
- New front fender
- Black plastic lower rocker
- Rear fender flare
- Rework rear passenger door
- New side step. Surprisingly the impact on the side step didn't bend the body mounting points. I looked at this too.
- Pull out ultra tiny dent on interior portion of center pillar
- Rework front fender bracket
- New front wheel (it got gouged a bit)
- New front tires. The front tire was impacted on the sidewall so it's required to be replaced.
- Paint the doors and front fender and blend into the rear quarter panel.
- Tons of little parts and trim pieces
- New OEM clear rock guard on the lower door and rear fender flare. I had to help the estimator find Toyota part no. because Toyota doesn't note it in the door diagrams.

I think it will need a new top A-arm because the wheel appears to have an extra degree or so of camber, but they'll confirm once it's fixed and put on the alignment rack. My biggest concern was intrusion of the door into the lower body sill, A-pillar, or C-pillar. Luckily that wasn't the case. The paint wasn't even damaged in those areas.

All OEM Toyota parts are being used and shockingly, all are in stock and will be in on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. The wreck happened on Saturday and they said it should be ready ~12/10.

I'm shocked by the parts prices in the estimate. Everything seems 20+% higher than what I can get the parts for online. I understand there is mark up, but I would think a body shop is given a preferred rate. They're ordering parts directly from a local Toyota dealer. The TRD wheel? $599. We paid $170/ea. The Nitto tires? $150 and they're saying $299 for one.

They're saying 31 hours for body and mechanical labor and 16 hours for paint. Labor rate is $54/hr.

The body shop is solid and we've used them in the past. My worry with paint work is matching and consistency, especially with metallic paint.

Update:

The truck is still in the shop. It took forever to get the fender from Toyota. As I expected, they put the truck on the alignment rack on Monday and sure enough, the upper control arm is bent. The control arm was immediately ordered, but of course, was backordered and now we're looking at next week to get the truck back.

Be damn careful driving folks because shop repairs are taking a TON of time thanks to supply chain issues. The guy I'm dealing with at the shop is beyond frustrated with repairs because it's damn near impossible to total out a late model car these days because values are sky high. What ends up happening at the shops is it takes a significant amount of time and parts to fix cars now and the shops have tons of cars sitting in various states of repair because they're waiting on parts and/or are doing massive body/chassis work to get the vehicles "straight".

Can’t speak for everyone but long ago, my “estimate” for a tailgate replacement was $1300, but insurance paid $800-something. (My deductible was not $500, so the math didn’t quite add up to make sense like that.

They simply received what they received from insurance, plus my $250 deductible, and had to make do.

do you think rock sliders wouldve prevented a lot of the damage? it looks like a bit of a yes or no depending on various factors like area and angle of impact, height of other vehicle, etc.

Total was 18k in damages from a completely iced out road. I surely thought they would total the rig, but they ... fixed it up. Note all the airbags deployed and this was a day before Toyota issued the airbag recall and a month before I left for Asia for 6 months. It took the shop from Dec 30th until Sept of the next year for me to get it back.

I do not. What happened was the Ford Taurus hit that side of the truck and has the Taurus crushed (the entire nose and hood), the crash height of the Taurus got higher and essentially reached over the step rails and intruded into the doors.

I would also wonder that since sliders are connected directly to the frame and the sliders have so much rigidity, the potential damage in a wreck like this could be transferred directly to the frame. I know the frame is a beast though.

The step rail that got crushed simply bent inwards at the mounting arms. The arms are bolted to the lower rail of the cab at OEM captive welded nut locations. There's was no damage at those mounting points or the cab itself (anywhere). Toyota must make that part of the cab relatively strong. At least for a ~10mph impact like this. The side rails likely saved the Taurus from intruding into the cab area and causing really expensive damage.

Sounds like the body shop was trying to charge too much, otherwise they should've pushed back on the adjuster to get the full amount minus deductible .
