What are Good Tips and Precautions changing a 07 Toyota 4 runner battery?

Such as: (info on 07, SR5, V6, 2WD when that day comes)

1. How will the alarm be affected and does and don’ts?
2. How will the computer be affected and does and don’ts?

Dude, it's just like changing a battery in anything thing else, remove the old one and install the new one, so simple. Just remember when taking out the old battery disconnect the positive wire first and when installing the new battery install the ground first

Oh ya, the computer may reset (depending on how long it takes you), but this is harmless.

Whenever you disconnect power in this truck all of the "auto" features no longer work until you recalibrate them. This includes the automatic drivers window, rear window, and sunroof. To calibrate them just lower / open them all the way and hold the button for another 3 secs and then raise / close them all the way and hold the button for another 3 secs. Resetting the computer is no biggie and I dont know about the alarm.

True, Negative off first and back on last.

If you touch the wrench to the negative and the body, nothing will happen. If you touch the positive to the body (when the negative is still connected) you will get major sparks.

Never touch metal to both of the battery terminals.

Thanks! This is a Great Message Board and Most Active with Good Info I have experienced.

The 07 4Runner is more Technology than I have ever owned or planned to own. I felt my 1993 Ford Explorer of 15 years would take me home (at 3,000 mi a year 116,00 mi and perfect IMO) until the switch shorted burned the main wiring harness and below dash).

I had 20 years of experience in a 1970 and 1980 Jeep Wagoneers before the Explorer. I learned a little about quality mid towing and tuff off-road farms which led me to this dream. I have done the majority of servicing on all our VWs, Volvos, Etc since 1968 but I started to back off with the late 1990s electronics related repairs.

Make sure you hook the - to the - post and + to the + post or you will have problems.

just get yourself a computer memory saver that plugs into the cigarette lighter. you won't lose anything that way.

I dont remember what late model car it was... thought it was a toyota. Anyway they made the pcm with volatile memory so the guy changed his battery and his car wouldnt start.

Use a memory saver or at least write down programmed radio stations. I always forget that. And in most vehicles bluetooth devices must be reprogrammed. Definitly disconnect neg. First and connect last. Doing positive first then last causes sparking which could cause explosion. Never seen that but...

I know on my '03 Limited the alarm goes off when I reconnect the battery. Definitely made me jump the first time it happened. Just lock and unlock the doors with the remote and it will stop.

I replaced the battery on my 05 4runner last year and didn't have this problem. The auto feature worked fine. I lost the presets on my radio though.

Don't use a memory saver.

I have a Pioneer HU with a 7" screen. I use my silly phone to capture all the screens and then combine all the screens using Photoshop then print it out and keep it in my glovebox. Works great! Can reprogram the HU real fast using this method.

Sometimes I lose all window calibration; others times it has not been affected or only partially. YMMV
