What are the symptoms of rear wheel bearings going out?

What should the rear wheel bearings start to go?

When the rear wheel bearings started to go on mine, it sounded like I had a really aggressive set of MT tires on the rear. Also, with the tires off, I spun the hub by hand and could actually feel the bad bearing. No other symptoms that I can remember. I went ahead and replaced both sides along with all the seals. I believe the cause was due the some very deep water I had driven through multiple times just a couple months before the symptoms started.

I've repeatedly thought my bearings were out due to the road noise. (I've had it happen in past vehicles). But every time I've gone to check they were fine. I'm starting to think it's my tires.

I just had my rear bearings done. Symptoms were the same as described by others. Noise that sounded like loud tires, first only above 45 mph, later even at lower speeds. I first thought it was the tires but then I got new tires (the old ones were really worn) and the noise got even worse. If you put the truck on a lift you can hear the rumbling as shown in the video. If it is not quite as bad a stethoscope helps.

Swap tires with another 4th gen and rule it out quickly! It's hard to detect a bad bearing unless it's really bad. In order for you to spin that wheel freely, the caliper need to be removed and *ideally*, so does the axle. But, all that is a lot of work so just swap tires with someone else and go for a drive.
