What are these weird marks on my door?

When ever I go on very dusty roads, I get these weird spots on my doors that don't get any dust. The dust just does not stick to these rectangle areas. Anyone experience this or have any idea what would cause it? There are 2 (sometimes 3) on the front door and 2 on the rear.

That would be nice... strangest thing... the rectangles have no dust on them what so ever. Weird.

Maybe somehting on the inside of the door? What would make the dust repel?

Does it every time I get it dusty.

I have an 03 4Runner the same color as yours and have never experienced what you are seeing. Find out what's going on and patent it, you'll never have to work another day in your life. Of course, I'll be glad to help you figure it out for a % of the gross.

I never saw it do it before I did the lift and MT/R's. I thought maybe it had something to do with the new height and the running boards since it was so uniformly shaped.

Maybe something was stuck there during transport and it has affected the paint, like when you peel a sticker off something? Very mysterious.

Except that you would usually expect any residue from a sticker to attract dust, not repel it.

I assume it happens after you washed and waxed it numerous times already?

Maybe you got magnets or something that repels dust from the inside, on the insides of those panels, but the parts diagram dont list/show anything like that.....hmmm

It'd be neat to know what causes that and make those rectangles cover your entire 4R, never wash again!!

Oh yeah, happens on boths sides in the same places.

I can't tell from the picture, but is the dust only stuck to the plastic body cladding?

If so, my hunch is that the dust is sticking due to an electrostatic charge, built up as the dry air (Arizona) passes over the plastic, and the places that it isn't sticking are the metal mounting plates/studs that are molded into the cladding, since they are grounded to the body.

Although I have no idea how the cladding is mounted, so my hunch probably doesn't hold much water.

You might be on to something. Yes, it is on the plastic part of the body and there very well could be clips that are metal that hold them on to the metal body.

Not sure about the electrcial charge thing because I'm not that smart, but it sounds good!

Anyone ever seen the back of the plastic trim or have a shop manual with a picture that shows the clips???

I can't sleep until I figure this out!!!
