What are you running at the end of your extended diff breathers?

I've been looking around and the consensus seems to be split. I currently have one of those cheap ass fuel filters that looks like this up next to my fuel filler:

I have a spare oem diff breather that will fit at the end of the hose. What are your opinions? My only concern is this thing taking in water if I go through a car wash or heavy rain.

I just use a cheap lawn mower style fuel filter BUT I ran the hose INSIDE the left rear 1/4 (near the jack) so I'm not worried about water.

Do you get any smell from the diff venting? Also, how is it routed?

I've never had ANY smell from it BUT it is inside the body panel. Also it's in the area of the external vent anyway so any odor would exit with other internal air. I'd have to lock underneath but I think I ran the hose through a grommet on the left rear side. I think it comes in just behind the left rear panel where it meets the hatch.

I think you are in pretty good shape with your current set-up. A car wash doesn't cool your differential to the degree that you would suddenly be sucking sprayed water down the breather. In general, that space beneath the gas fill cover does not get directly wet, water trickling in around the edges is all.

As long as your installation is such that water can't pool around your differential breather filter then you will be fine.

I just picked up an air compressor muffler from the hardware store and screwed in on to a hose barb. put it in the filler neck location

i used the stock diff breather i took off when i put the extended hose on. just picked up the barbed breather (nissan PN-515040) that threads directly into the rear diff, clamped the extended hose onto it, ran it up to the fuel filler cap, (on the inside of the fuel filler cap, behind the plastic) and threaded the stock breather back into the end of the hose. water never touches it now. not even during car washes, lol.
