What brake pads are you running

Usually search in the forum of how to DIY's and read all the awesome builds all you members do.

On to my question. My front brake pads need to be replace soon. Don't if I should run OEM or aftermarket. I went to the stealership and they wanted a $hit load of $$$$. This is my daily, so I don't do any 4 wheeling at all as this rig has a lot of sentimental value.
Forum elder's please chime in and provide an opinion of OEM vs Aftermaket. Thanks in advance.

This is just one of those things that you'll get a ton of mixed opinions on. I bought pads last summer and decided to go with Akebono (ACT436). So far these pads have been really good, but I doubt they'll last as long as OEM pads...but they were half the price.

I'd recommend the Akebono pads over the basic options you'd find at Autozone, Napa, O'Reilly, etc.

Plenty of good pads, Toyota pads just last longer though. Probably the only time you'll ever do the brakes.

I've tried a lot of different pads over the 16 years I've owned my '98 and recently decided to try OEM again... And I'm not going back. OEM all the way.

I have been using them on most of my vehicles and have no reason to switch since they perform so well.

I am on the OEM wagon as well. They grab better and have good wear life. Don't get lifetime pads from the local auto parts store, your brake power will feel substantially reduced as they just don't grab/wear the same way.

Make sure toyota puts on new shims !

Toyota seems to be the only OEM brake sets that DO NOT come with the Shim Kit. They keep re using old ones until you STOP THEM! The Shim is a thin Plate that sits behind the pad and absorbs the pressure of the caliper pressing on the pad. It is there to Prevent squeaking BUT if you never change it, it will be the Source of the squeaking, squeeling. Causing you to come back for new brake pads prematurely.

I've had good luck in general with Duralast Gold pads and they're lifetime warranty so pretty hard to beat IMO

What was your experience on pad wear? How often did you have to replace your them. Again. I'm not 4-wheeling. We do have hills.

Updated part numbers are 04465-35240 for the pads is and 04945-04012 for the shim kit.
