Not sure what this person is angry about and the comments on this forum are certainly inappropriate in my opinion. I shoot with a Nikon D70. My experience is limited but I first liked the Nikon binoculars. The optics were all by themselves. That carries over to the Nikon camera. The D70 has more abilities than I know. I like the ease of Picture Perfect which is the downloading program. It is fast easy and supports on my laptop very nicely. I also enjoy the look and feel of the Nikon. It gains comments from others as a step just below the professionals. It picks up things that I simply do not see in the frame finder which makes my pics exciting to see and view over again. That said, several of my family equally like the Canons. This pic is one of my favorites.

I have a couple P&S cameras and considered getting the Canon SD950 IS for my next upgrade for something more compact. My friend who was getting an DSLR at the time who was doing research got me into researching DSLRs, which was something I considered but did not weigh heavily. I ended up getting a DLSR and still got the SD950 IS a few months later. I love the DSLR as much I like the P&S. Can't beat the P&S when you're out and about and want to capture the "moment". Also, P&S is small and easy to carry around almost all the time--there are times where picture opportunties come up. But if I'm going out for pictures specifically, I take the DSLR.

One other advantage of a DSLR is they have a bigger sensor (the imaging device) than a P&S, thus pictures are generally clearer and better even if the megapixel ratings are the same. But also a disadvantage because it adds to the size of the overall camera.
 
My wife went out an bought a camera yesterday (P&S) style. She bought the Sony Cybershot DSC-150. Ive read the reviews and played around with it and it seems to be a descent camera. Does anyone have experiences or opinions about the particular camera. We have about two weeks to return. Any info would be great. I think we bought it for less than $200 if I am not mistaken.

Just updating...

So i had this Sony Camera for a couple of weeks and I must say that it is a great camera for $200.

1) One of the biggest LCD display areas at 2.7"
2) Easy button navigation/menu setup
3) We havent printed any pix yet, but on the PC they look great.
4) Many options and settings to play with
5) light and small

I really wasnt a person who took lots of pix, but after getting this camera my artistic eye is becoming developed =)

I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a great P&S camera for about $200. If you have time, you can get this camera for about $180, you just need to watch for sales.

I expected that (Nov. '09)... since it seems like most Nikon D-SLRs have about a 2-year life cycle and the D300 has been out for about a year. Some speculation says the D400 will have a FX sensor and possibly cost $4300. That makes it more expensive than the D700 (and it should be the D800 rather than D400, if the speculation is true). Which doesn't make much sense to me. I hope Nikon doesn't get all screwy with their numbering scheme, like Canon's P&S Elph line. How is the SD950/990 a better model than the SD1100? That's like a Lexus GS with the 4.6 V8 being a GS340 or something. :confused:

I suspect the D400 will add the video features of the D90 but for the rest remain almost like the D300 with the possible addition of an SD slot.
 
I have been using the Sony DSC-V1 since it first came out in 2003, paid around $650 or so back then for the camera alone, no memory. I have three batteries and 4GB of memory for use on extended trips away from the PC. It is 5mp and allows manual control. For a decently small point and shoot it is great, havent seen anything smaller that offers the feature set that this has. I have been shooting some HDR shots lately with the Aperture Priority mode and a tripod as can been seen in my recent detailing write up. I will probably go SLR someday, but love the portability of the Sony DSC-V1.

Spot on Spider5! I hoped they wouldn't screw up the naming convention with "D400," if D300 successor has FX sensor, glad Nikon got the naming correct. It'll be the D300s. Hopefully, it'll be competitively priced, otherwise a D300 will be no brainer.

This is one badass point and shoot camera.


I'd love to have a "real" camera one day, though...
