What can you tow?

I recently bought my 4runner , and let me tell you it is awesome . After doing this tow , I was wondering what the heaviest tow you guys have done. (Basically trying to learn what's my limits)

Bought this trailer 7 yrs ago for moving material for my other business on a daily thing, not so much at all now. 7k rated, been known to go over that with it. But, also the suspension is set up to handle the loads with electric brakes also. Powered by v-6, no problem.

I haven't towed anything with my 05 V6 4Runner... but when I had my 04 V8 4Runner, I towed a 5x8 enclosed trailer weighing in around 4500# (upgraded single axle). After 2 years of towing the transmission started acting up. I did a lot towing in the hills/mountains at highway speeds.

But now I have a Chevy Express 3500 with the Duramax diesel with a over built heavy duty trans in it after it blew up, so this tows everything I need to.

Haven't had a chance to to with my 4runner yet, but in my 07 FJ I towed all the time. I pulled a cattle trailer loaded with 3-4 heifers a lot, as well as random ag implements and pulled our master craft up to the lake almost every day. If the FJ handled all that with such a short wheelbase, the 4runner can only do better

I've towed a 16ft trailer with about 12 rolls of carpet on it. Was a bit heavy, not sure i'd want to do it often.

We tow our 20' box every time we go to the desert weighing in at about 4.5k. And every time we move we tow it weighing in right at 6.5-7k.....

I'm surprised how well these tow for u guys. I've never tried towing because I still have my f250 for towing and hauling stuff

I am actually curious how she will do with an enclosed trailer. Im shopping right now for a 6x12 or 7x12 V-nose but concerned with the wind resistance and how she will do. Ive always had a truck before and never worried about it but now this is our only towing vehicle.

It tows pretty darn well. I honestly haven't towed anything else or with anything else, so I don't have anything to compare it to. But if I compare it to when we used to go to pismo in my old 22re '88 runner on 31s, there were hills that I had to pull at about 35mph just north of Santa Barbara. With the v8 and the trailer, on the same hills, it'll do 55mph fairly easily. It does drop down to 3rd gear sometimes, but overall, I've been very impressed. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely get a v-nose, but with a 12 ft, you will have no problem at all. I used to use a WDH and sway control when I towed, but since the lift, I don't have a long enough drop shank. I've been towing about 4k lbs a few times recently with just the ball and have had no problems whatsoever. It cruises at 65+ very easily in 4th and I often find myself accidentally creeping up over 70 on flat ground. Also, I would imagine that tires would make a fairly big difference. For reference, I have 265/70r17 nitro terra e-load tires (31.5" 50lbs), and I think eventually I will get an upgraded tranny cooler when I up the tire size.
