What color coolant????

I just had to replace my OEM water pump after installing it new 10 months ago.

I am wondering if I put the wrong coolant in there.

Is there a difference between red and yellow?

I know when I took the motor apart the first time, it was red and when I put the new Water pump in, I installed yellow....wondering if this was the problem with my water pump.

But now I have a new OEM water pump and before I install the coolant, was wondering if there is a difference.

Was the water pump leaking? Why did you replace it after just 10 months?

You should use red coolant in there - Toyota recommends it. People do use the Prestone yellow and have not had any problems. If you are switching, be sure to really flush the system before you fill with your new coolant. You don't want cross contamination from old coolant.

No it was not leaking, but did start making a bad noise.
Finished installing new water pump tonight and I am going to try the toyota red from the dealership

Figured it would be good to run water first to help flush all the green out. Figured I would try it several times before I install the new red.

Good plan. Napa has Zerex which is the red equivalent (the price of the red stuff at the Toyota dealership is on par with unicorn poop.) I got a couple of jugs of the Napa red for around $13 each.

Actually, it's a pink equivalent. Zerex Asian is pre-diluted to 50/50 and uses p-HOAT technology like the Toyota Super Long Life pink coolant. The red is full-strength and uses benzoates instead of sebacates and is an OAT coolant. (OAT=organic acid technology; HOAT=hybrid organic acid technology).

You will need two jugs of Zerex Asian for each jug of Toyota Red. Sometimes the price makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. Some Toyota dealers are much greedier than other. Amazon has the red for $34 prime-eligible.

Pink is NOT diluted red so please don't anybody go there. That's just bad info that gets repeated.
