What color to paint Skid Plate?

Well I've finally got my suspension and alignment sorted out, so I am going to put the skid plates back on next weekend after giving everything under there a good scrub. I plan to hit the frame with some flat black to freshen it up, there's not any rust, but I do hit the beach, so I want to add some protection.

My question is what color to paint the skid plates. I've got a few different cans of Krylon in my garage.

Well I've already done half my frame with flat black, and 5 months later, I don't notice much dirt build-up. I haven't washed my car since Tropical Storm Sandy came through.

You think I should go with gloss black then for my frame? I've always used flat black for frames and never had an issue.

If you don't already have an accent color...(eg., red lift springs, chrome bumpers, etc..) go with the flat black like your frame!

By the way...very nice 4Runner. Looks really clean...

The Imperial Jade may be able to pull off the gray. Otherwise, you could play it safe and paint it flat black.

Well I was thinking grey because I may paint my flares grey later on down the road.I'm not sure what it would look like with gray flares and black mudguards though.

Are they oem skids? If so, then I vote for black. I don't think the oem skids are particularly good looking. Any color other than black is just going to call more attention to them.

OP, I just painted mine (Budbuilt) black (gloss because it was laying around). I like it because it doesn't stand out too much especially since it's just a slab of metal.

OP, I just painted mine (Budbuilt) black (gloss because it was laying around). I like it because it doesn't stand out too much especially since it's just a slab of metal.

I like the parts that I build, to stand out. When you have built it yourself it is not just a slab of metal! ;-) even though my bumpers and skids are not the best or the best looking they are mine from an idea to smashing into rocks! :beer:

Oh I completely agree, but the BudBuilt isn't the most aesthetically pleasing skid I've seen. I attempted to paint the etched BudBuilt on it, but the paint was acting up, so I said screw it and went all black. If I built it I'd make more attention to it as you said, because I'd be proud. I will admit your 4runner isn't going to win any best in show contest for looks, but who cares about looks when you're climbing up a rock with one wheel in the air? :thumb:
