What cylinder heads to buy?

the reason these cylinder heads are not meant to be rebuilt has to do with the valve seats. you cant get oversized ones or something i forget exactly what they told me when i was looking into doing it.

my two cents. get a new motor and then you have a million extra motor parts.

its just not worth rebuilding these motors unless you are in the middle of the amazon jungle and have no other option

im not sure about your "friends" credentials but i am an actual toyota mechanic and this motor isn't exactly user friendly.

Anything can be fixed.

Either they lacked the ability to fix it, or it wasn't economically feasible.

I'd like to see some more info about this valve seat issue. Is the documented some place by Toyota?

This is a tough process and i feel bad for anyone making these ultra critical choices about vehicles they love.

I've read all the reviews and forum stories i can find about:

OEM new cylinder heads
and a honda accord. LOL!

Found an engine from a 99 with 112,000 miles on it. Guy said I can hear it run but not pull the intake and valve covers for a sludge check. 1 month or 1000 mile warranty whichever comes first. I'm leaning this direction for the sake of ease, quality and maybe have the extra 5VZ for my 85 pickup when it's rebuilt eventually...

The local toyota master tech shop said they use a lot of Cylinder Head International replacement heads and rarely have trouble with them. What I'm worried about is the bottom end because it had milkshaked the oil and I'm not sure how long it was like that when I drained it out. I had the oil changed the day right before this happened and they didn't say anything about it being milky so... Hopefully the bottom is ok. I assume the prudent route is to drop the oil pan and inspect. Which will be a fun bit of work i assume... Or just assume the bottom is toast and not risk it? Worth doing a clutch/rear main seal at some point in this mess?

Trying to maintain optimistic moral for a better running rig when this is over... sigh. :violin: 3rd gen love affair.

the bottom end is probably trashed. just buy a used motor and keep all the parts from the old motor as extras.
