This guy seems to do mostly FJ stuff, but his was the only source I could find for just the 5-speed cap (not the whole shift knob).
Didn't see anything for transfer case though, sorry to say.

I finally replaced my beat up stock transfer case with some parts I picked up on another forum cheap. The Sky's Off Road transfer case skid and 4x Innovations tc mount are some nice upgrades for my trail rig '87 4Runner.

1st first Gen
I am going backwards...My first 4Runner was a 3ed gen (96) 2.7 4banger 5 speed two wheel drive. then a second gen (95)3.0V6 Auto 2 WD now a first gen (88)3.0 5speed convertible Now my first 4x4 4Runner. Looking forward to driving stick again. Dealer would not give me a VIN cut key because name on pink was not mine. Next step AAA to start Registration process. 4x4 by the way. And while I'm here, the transmission was sloppy back when it ran, any idea on how I can get it to tighten up?

I put a new starter in (3vze). As long as one has a few feet of extensions for a 3/8th ratchet it is a really easy job. Pulled it out through the passenger fender well after removing the access door.
Installed a "New Starter" (thats the brand name hahahahaha) a Chinese starter that cost me under $60. It is in fact completely brand new. Operates fast and smooth starts the truck quick.
Time will tell. Kept the original of course!

Can you tell me how the wiring was routed, was it behind the motor mount and then up? We took ours apart and I can't seem to find any pictures of the battery ground to the block etc.
I just bought the 1986 4Runner last week and I have done the following this week!
1) Installed a shift boot cover and new shift knob. The shifter boot cover was the first thing I ordered because I couldn't stand the site of seeing the bare floor.
2) Painted the wiper arm blades black since they were bare metal
3) Recharged the AC
4) Took the top off like an idiot in the 100 degree Texas Weather the day after fixing the AC! It wasn't my brightest decision but I couldn't wait to take off the top.
5) I changed the oil

Installed a new 15" Grant Steering Wheel. The leather on the original was flaking in my hands on humid mornings.
I'm keeping the original, just in case.
Next, some detailing and then the top is coming off. Just in time for maximum Texas heat in August.

-Finished prepping my 85 axle for install
-Fabricated some sliders
-Braced the front fenders, installed fenders
-HID install with projector headlights with turn signals built into the housing
-Replaced valve cover gaskets
-Replaced windshield
-Changed oil
-Removed cargo carpet and welded in 4 more tie downs
-Replaced parking brake cable
-Installed hand throttle
-Finished installing dash after heater core replacement
-Fabricated battery tire down
-Shimmed hood
-Fabricated bracket for "custom" intake
That's all I can remember doing haha, it was a long weekend at my shop. Will post pictures in here and my build thread once the SAS is complete. Should be done this weekend.
