What did you do with your classic T4R today?

You mean crankcase oil mixed with water from ditch?

... It appeared that someone poured water in my gas tank.

hmmm... I wonder how water would get in your gas tank when truck's nose down and fuel tank door is out of the ditch.

Makes me wonder IF 3rd gen intake sucks from behind the grille (like on our first-gens) or from above the wheel-well. On the first-gen, that position could easily cause it to suck water into the intake.

I still need to drain my front t-case. I went out of town shortly after, but no it was water mixed in with my actual engine oil. The Dipstick tube is short--I think it had to have gotten in there. I got very little water in my intake--the car was running while I was trying to get it out, until I sunk it a bit more. 3rd gens suck from the grill iirc from my friend's 3rd gen.

I have no idea how the heck water got in my tank--thats the only thing I can think of.

First tear down

Ive tore my top end off and discovered one of my pistons and the header corresponding to it is very pitted. Im assuming I have to replace that.

I want to remove the block and bring it to a machine shop.
That being said can I remove the engine block like that and how heavy is it, can I remove it myself or maybe one other person?

removing running boards

Yesterday I was under the toy fixing the exhaust leak when I decided to remove the running boards, in order to clear the two screws in front of the rear wheels I jacked up the truck and went to work, removed the driver side before it started to rain. I jumped in started the motor put it reverse, nothing!! I tried low, nothing!! what is going on?? I put it 4wd, backed right up and came off the jack that I had forgot to let down, rear tires were just off the ground. Getting old is not for the young at heart, your memory goes second, can't remember what goes first.......

She took the Missus and me on Road Trip to Sonoma Coast for a little camping (in the truck) and tourist routine.

Unfortunately I didn’t get as much accomplished as I would of liked due to rain but I was able to get my 4X innovation sliders mocked up. I at least have a nice idea of what it will look like.

I have the exact same ones. Love them. Coated them with Rustoleum Bedliner which I half love. The product was sort of hit and miss in the spray can but it worked overall.

I angled mine 15° upward. Solid design and strong as hell when welded properly.

I really like those 4x sliders and I think for the money I may pick up a set although I feel like I may skid the legs with sheet metal to minimize hang up points

went up to the flats in Marion, NC and did a little road trip camping adventure. Just to kinda see what a locked stock 4runner would do before i cut it up.

500 miles on the new motor, changed the oil and oil filter, set the timing down a little and dropped the idle speed. Runs great, I was following a car that was going to slow, stood on the toy and jumped to 75 mph right now, and was still climbing when I backed out of it. Now if the mileage would just come up a little more. little over 1/2 tank to go 182 miles, maybe closer to 3/4 tank. When I fill it I will do the math.......

Nice looking rig. Looking forward to a platform build, as I am looking to do the same thing with mine come summer. Make sure you post it up in the classics section for the rest of us! Also maybe a picture with a bike on that carrier, would be interesting to the see the weight load on it.

It’s been a busy winter but a few warm days came through and I was able to get the bike out to the trails for my first attempt at carrying the bike with the hitch carrier. Rear end squatted so bad that the tires rubbed. Turns out those god only knows how many mile fj coils were shot. I picked up a set of OME 901 heavy duity coils which seem to do the trick. With 300bls hanging 5 feet off the from the rear diff she road level. Not to mention the 3.4l rolls with easy at 70mph and a bike on the back. Sure the ride is rough with out the bike but when I do get around to making a platform in the back this spring, should help out a good bit. Oh yeah, who needs brake lights? Lol I’m definitely going to need to rig up some quick connect lights to the carrier.

It wasn't today, but a few days ago I got my winch on.




I know it's not a WARN, but this is a low budget project. I did a test pull with my Silverado crew cab up a roughly 15 degree slope. It did well, but I'll need to upgrade my battery. 660 CCA is the recommended minimum and mine is 560. Had to stop every few feet under load to let the alternator catch up.
