removed the upper & lower intake/plenum, upper timing covers, fuel rails, fan, shroud, all to get to the knock sensor pigtail. new pigtail should arrive early in the week, at which point i can put everything back together.

Undecided as to what tires and rims so I decided to buy some cheap mastercraft AT lt235/75r15's until i figure it out. Had Les Schwab align and inspect driveline and suspension(brakes recently done...all good. 108k so nothing major was expected.

rims were fugly... so a temporary fix... using rust-o wheel paint...sprays like a candy and takes many, many coats. degreased, treated for rust, wooled, degreased and sprayed. Turned out ok but not expecting longevity which is ok too.

I prefer factory rims. I don't quite like 4-spokes but I got the 15-inch SR5 4-spoke alloy free from friend. It has a subtle offset, so tires stick out a little bit more than stock first-gen rims in what I'd call a very tasteful manner. After-market ones that came on truck had a vulgar offset - LOL!

Five-spoke is just more classic and more aesthetically pleasing. Six or more - too busy.

If you don't mind more cost for rim and tire, I would suggest trying the 16-inch "5-star" rim (from 1999/2000 4Runner?). Classic, elegant, simple.

I see similar styling on current Series-70 Land Cruisers.

Putting the wipers, spoiler etc back on after monstalineing the 4runner I got side tracked and decided to play with laying stuff out on the roof rack.* *The only permanent fixture I think will be the small storage box up front.**

Yes, I want the sr5 alloy rims...patiently waiting for a deal. This runner is untouched with only the tires not oem. Paint is original as well. Its clean, one owner rig that I picked up a month ago or so. Family friend.. 108k -little ole lady rig that was well serviced with records. I prefer 16 but not as much on an unlifted runner...and the 235's are cheap in comparison. In montana and with broncos I ran 235/85/16 almost exclusively... great mountain tire

Feeling lucky with this rig no doubt.

235 on 15 good compromise for aesthetics and economy. I went for that after the 225's that came with mine. Upgraded to 31's for better ground clearance.

Decal Removal - May I recommend a body shop supply service. Go in and as for a Graphics Eraser. It is a round disc you put in a drill. it will make quick work of graphics. worth every penny. 1 disc is about $20 and will do your whole truck.

I bought 2 adhesive removers on Amazon to take off the factory stripes 2 years ago. Took me 30 minutes to do both sides

It's weird Ray it doesn't happen all the time. Pic looks fine in the phones gallery..I try to rotate them and it doesn't do anything..
Oh well.

Got my Jungle Fender Flares mounted. I really wanted to avoid flares again but I live close to s sheriff's substation and see their cars at the light almost every time.
Anyway here they are. Sorry its crooked..I uploaded it upside down and it still did it

got the passenger-side parking brake functional on the '88. adjusted the shoe clearance.

began the process on the driver-side, adjusted shoes. then bled rear brakes. now have functional rear brakes, but need to finish the parking brake refurb.

edit: finished the parking brake refurb on the driver-side. removed the lever, cleaned it, used oxy/ace torch to remove the pivot pin, cleaned the inner surface with a file so the lever would pivot freely, and then installed it. also adjusted the cable, lengthening it at the joint in front of the gas tank (where the front and rear cables are connected). parking brake now operates smoothly, and both sides release when the cable lever is released (the driver-side used to remain locked "on").

i broke the retaining clip on the housing, so i used a spare brake shoe retaining clip in its place - should work fine.

tore into the door panels to test non-working passenger window. direct power confirmed that window can operate, just need to find the issue - probably in the door control module, behind the ecu. also tested the courtesy light in the door - it works with direct power, too. likely the same place for a problem (dcm).

the front seats in the '88 are quite comfortable, and the driver's seat is multi-adjustable (lumbar, bolster, seat bottom angle). i might swap these into my '87.
