What did you have before your 4Runner?

Still have my 2004 Ford Ranger with the FX4 Level 2 package. Has done me well over the past two years and 20,000 miles. Truck before that was a 1994 Ranger 2wd with a 2.3 which was a fantastically boring truck but man was it dead nuts reliable.

Currently on the hunt for a nice 3rd gen!

Well not really a car..

I put 362.000miles in 19 years on that black GS, so many silly trips, 150mile loops just to eat breakfast, 13 trips to whistler in BC from San Francisco, solo about 23-24 hours none stop, with my Ex girlfriend that is a hell of a motorcycle racer and rider about the 20 hour mark, since the passenger can sleep..

Hell my first trip to Seattle was "Sponsor" by Cliff bar because my friend Sarah that work on the PR department and give me boxes and boxes of bars (same exact flavor) so the trip to seattle end up in the yukon because I found work building bicycles at different stores and still have a whole saddle bag full of cliff bars, so why not keep going..

I'm 53 and only learn to drive 7 years ago, forced by the heavy snow in Salt lake city and the plans to make kiddos in the future..

Also did tons off road riding, rubicon, double tracks, single tracks, long endurance races, motocross tracks, miracle i'm still alive..

I'm such a wuss now, even the noise and the wind bother me..

This was my very first car, a beatup old International Scout. I don't remember what model year it was, but I got it in 1977:

My first brand new car was this 1986 Isuzu Trooper, purchased in February '87:

I had two more Troopers after that one. The last was purchased in April 2001, and I replaced it with my new 4Runner in February of this year.

My 4Runner was an extra car, so it did not replace anything. Added a 1st Gen Tundra to the stable shortly afterwards.

The first ride, 1990 Miata. A lot of fun stories with this car. Only 16,000 miles on it when I fixed it and I drove it until 25,000.

Than I got my 1997 3rd generation, bought it with 90,000 miles and the 5 speed. Planning on hitting 250,000 before it's gone

This was my very first car, an International Scout. I don't remember what model year it was.
I bought it used in 1977; this photo was taken in 1978. I learned to drive in this car. I also taught
myself a bit about car maintenance and repair, out pure necessity to save money. Fortunately
it was pretty easy to do since cars were dirt simple back then -- no electronics, smog or fancy
gadgets. I spent a LOT of time in the Anza-Borrego desert thanks to this Scout, and had a lot
of good times with my friends and my brothers, one of whom is gone now. Great memories:

2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport w/ upgraded sway bars, tires and rally flaps. This was a fun car.


2004 Honda CR250cc two-stroke. Had a bad crash and broke my femur and ankle. Sold after crash.

1983 CJ7 Jeep project. 4" lift, seats, radio, wheels/tires, and painted battle ship grey. Had electrical issues and was sold. Should have just done a motor swap of some sort.


Not mine, but one of my brothers MANY projects. 2007 Long Travel Ford Ranger.

It was really hard to let mine go. Other than the front end geometry, it ran beautiful and was like new. I had a death wobble right after it was lifted and the shop worked it out. The truck ran perfect for 2.5 years and then it started again.
After owning it twelve years, Down The Road! After nine Jeeps it's Toyota Time!

I had my 2002 Saturn VUE AWD V6. My first new car purchase and we drove it for over 10 years. Not an off-road vehicle at all, but I liked it. I gave it to my son, who promptly totaled it. This was the last undamaged photo.

I've owned many vehicles, currently 4 at the house.

That said, this was the previous vehicle in the same class. It was extremely clean as far as the body and interior goes, but the frame was rotted badly.

It was underpowered, but fun. I couldn't believe that the mirrors folded in under their own power.

I have 2 useless vehicles in my garage that I rarely drive, a grocery getter, and my favorite Tundra to drive every day. Hopefully my Pro comes soon.....
