What did you have before your 4Runner?

Not the first time I've been told that. I was living in Northern California when I bought it and was going to track it on the weekends since I went to school 45 minutes from Sonoma Raceway. I live in Central Oregon now, so I need something that can survive the winter and scale some mountains, haha.

This was my first toyota since my 4x4 '83 sr5 longbed that got stolen in highschool. '96 Tacoma with 318k on the gauge. Wanted to make a expeditionary rig out of it, but decided to keep it for what it was originally purchased for, to park the F350. So I bought a '90 4runner instead.

Like many here, I came over from a Wrangler. Riding around without a top and/or doors was fun, but that vehicle was abusive and a giant maintenance bomb waiting to happen. 3 weeks into the Runner and absolutely zero regrets

1986 Bronco II, one after another until the final straw; broke down in front of a cemetery the first day of snow. The director took us home. The fix? A $15 clutch-slave INSIDE the transmission! $800 job. F' that, we went and found a 1986 Turbo SR5 in great shape and put a new engine in it. FOR SALE by the way ;-)

You're the first person I've heard that didn't like his Bronco II. I know the 2.6 was prone to HG issues but the 2.9 manual trans combo was great. After driving a 2.9/5spd ranger, I always wanted a bronco II version. They're classics at this point. I had a hard time stepping away from an 89 Eddie Bauer version that was only $1,000 because the lady didn't want to pay for a new exhaust system to pass emissions.

Don't get me wrong....you definitely upgraded though...

I have the v6 gas engine.
-The transmission shifts poorly. Sometimes it feels like the truck is being kicked in the ass when it’s shifting.
-Putting the truck into reverse causes a sudden jolt.
-My infotainment system would turn off not was causing the battery to drain. So at 7500 miles, I had to take that in for service. The service department was a nightmare. They didn’t want to offer me a loaner and the service writer was very disrespectful and not customer oriented. It was a terrible experience that finally convinced me that maybe I’m not the target Chevrolet owner.
-The icing on the cake, my father-in-law and I were using the truck the other day for a project. The TPMS light was on showing the left rear tire air pressure low. Stopped and put air in the tire and the light stayed on. Drove the truck all day. When I got home, I used several different gauges and the pressure was set accordingly. Just when I was about to take the truck in, I figured out that when my oil was changed and tires rotated at the same dealership, they didn’t reorient the sensors in the computer to coordinate with the correct wheel sensor.

Needless to say, that’s the last Chevrolet I’ll buy.
