What do I have? Tire size?

I have a 1996 4runner SR5 with the 3.4L, not a limited, no sun roof, just plain jane in 4wd. 95k miles on it too. What coils did I end up with? Bad ones?
What was stock tiresize? The spare is like a lot smaller than the 265,70,R16 Michelin LTX it came with.
I'd also like to sell off the almost new Michelin and get some BFG AT or MTR... Can I fit 265,75,R16 with no lift? It won't be flexed out much, it's a DD/tow rig and what we take out to the shooting range (does see 4 hi when in the sand)

You don't necessarily have bad coils...its just people like the 99 ones cause they were a tad taller. Stock tire size is what you have...265/70

Yes you can fit that size just fine but if your coils are tired they will need to be replaced and it's good to replace the shocks too while you're at it.

It is completely possible your ride originally came with 15 inch wheels and tires.

As Thai says-check the door jamb to be sure.

If you want to run front mudflaps you may encounter rubbing if you step up to the 265/75/16 size. If you don't care about the front mudflaps then the 75 series tire should fit fine-in theory.

Have the tire shop show you the difference between the two sizes side by side.

Make sure they will mount one to your front axle and check it for side to side turning and reverse for rubbing. That is the only true way to know for sure.

FWIW, door jamb stickers have not been too accurate for me. All of mine have said 225/75/15 when they actually came with 265's and 16" rims and brakes. Others have reported the same.

Thanks guys, I'm just throwing around some plans for now, I got the new Cragar soft 8's with 5" back space in 16x8, and, they rub the front calipers so I'll need to do some wheel spacers :bash:
I'll wait till the 265/70's it has wears out, their LTX MS and tho not too grippy, I guess they'll do fine

Stock wheels are 16x7 with a 4.625" of backspacing, so a 16x8 wheel with a 5" backspacing will definitely have some issues. You said the calipers rub, but what about tires? I'm sure they'll rub, too. You'll need some big spacers, in which case, I'd advise to sell the wheels and get something with a proper offset (i.e.
~4 backspacing).

In trd's defense, he did say 16x7's, which would've worked out. I've had 17x7 Tundra wheels on my 4Runner with no issues (they've got about a 5" backspacing).

IMHO, I would just keep your stock wheels, get a lift and put on some 255/85/16's. Or if you don't want a lift, you could put on either 245/75/16's or 265/75/16's. I don't think it would make your 4Runner look like a low rider at all. Also, get rid of your running boards (if applicable).

And I believe FZJ80 wheels (94-97 Land Cruiser) are 16x8 with a 4.5" of backspacing.

They fit just fine, no rubbing, no rubbing the calipers, nothing, just good working and looking Cragar soft 8's
