What do you bring camping?

We bring all kinds of stuff, and so far haven't wanted for anything. There are typically 5 of us + 2 dogs, so if you see plurals of some of the equipment, that's why.

Tents
Sleeping bags
Sleeping pads
Camp chairs
Pillows
Tarp for shade or additional shelter in case of rain
Cheapo hammock for relaxing
Knives!!! (Becker BK16, Condor Bushlore, Ontario RAT1)
Hatchet and sometimes an axe
Shovel
Lighter
Fire steel
Cordage, usually 200 ft of paracord
Small wood burning camp stove
12 cup enamel coffee pot
Cups/plates/Sporks
Water (5 gal scepter can, or 2 depending on length of trip)
Food (snacks, dry goods like oatmeal, entrees, fruit, coffee, etc)
BEER
Flashlights and headlamps
Bug spray

For a piece of kit I really recommend... pick up some dry bags. I've got 2 55L dry bags that I chuck whatever I need into, and they keep it clean and dry. Best part is that if you have to, you can tie them down on the roof or back of your truck if you've run out of space inside. So bulky stuff like the pillows and sleeping bags can be put in them, and if I have room in the truck, so be it, but if not, outside it goes.

Off topic a bit but have u guys noticed that on Topo maps abandon mines are being deleted? There are a few I used to frequent, bought a map recently no longer on there.. The mines are still there tho not covered up.. Thought it was weird...

on top of some of the basics everyone has listed, I always have my 1911, Ka-Bar, and folding camping tables.

The tables make everything much easier.

Not weird at all. There's a bunch of old mines in this area and they are the last thing you really want the public to know about being they are far from being maintained anymore.

Curious as to what everyone takes on camping trips, what has worked and hasn't; gear, food, etc. Thanks everyone!

Camping at Shasta Lake Memorial Day weekend, possibly see/meet anyone there?

Im a total minimalist as I'm usually on a motorcycle - I dont even bring a stove anymore unless I'm going to Baja or off road for more than a few days.
I've narrowed it down to just things I really need

- small tent
- thermarest pad
- Thermarest pillow
- enough water for at least two days
- packaged foods and protein shakes in cans
- Camera

That's about it. I can pack for a one month trip in about 30 mins as I have all my travel stuff organized in bags. Just add to any bike and go.

Wife and I spent a few months through the years bike camping all over the western USA and she actually got to be pretty awesome at the whole minimalist bike travel thing which is great because many women just can't do it. That being said I always plan a hotel about every third day for showers, restaurants and the like.

If I'm goin with the wife and kid, it's total car camping; stove, hot beverages, tons of food, bikes, toys... you name it... and takes weeks to pack
