What do you guys think?

I'm in the market for a supercharger! This is pretty exciting, I know :biggrin2: There is a 1st gen supercharger that has, the seller claims, 30-35K miles on it. He says the listing just comes with the supercharger itself and the belt. My question is, is $1200 a fair price in this situation? There will probably have to be some parting together of some things if all it comes with is the blower and the belt. Any input is appreciated!

If it doesn't have the belt tensioner then that is going to cost another $260. And if doesn't have all the bolts or correct throttle cable bracket you're looking at another $160 for the install kit. Have you seen the http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/146022-3-4l-trd-supercharger-thread.html

I think 1200 is a little much if it doesn't have all you're going to need to bolt it in right away. And it's a 1st gen so rebuilding it is harder as well if it needs it.

I have been looking for a tensioner bracket from any source other than buying the 260 dollar kit as I already have the tensioner and just need the bracket for over 2 months with no luck. ( zacattack20 hooked it up with other hard to find parts-thanks man)
I wouldn't pay over 800 for a 1st gen in good condition, offer him 800 at most other wise keep on looking because deals are out there.
Also make sure you consider the costs of any other mods you are going to want/need such as plugs, injectors, all the cool URD stuff. The supercharger is just the start

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm still offering this guy 1200 because it seems to be the lowest he would consider. Spending another $420 to get it running doesn't seem too bad for the total price being $1600-1700 for a low milage supercharger. And as far as rebuilding goes, from what I've gathered, the first gen wouldn't be too much more difficult to rebuild than the second gen besides the fact it would probably be easier to find a replacement nose cone on the second gen.

I just got mine with no belt tensioner. But it's almost brand new. There's good deals out there you just have to find them. There's a guy here selling his 1st gen supercharger for 2200, but it comes with....pause for effect....TRD headers and a 7th injector with three different pulleys.
