What do you think about the speed of the 4runner?

I've owned my 2006 for about 2 years now....I love it...absolutely love it...

I went from an older 97 SR5 4Runner 3.4L V6 to a new 2006 SE V6 4x4 and it was like night and day.


When I went for the test drive I was overwhelmed by the speed!


Simply put: Does anyone else find the 4Runner 4th Generation to be pretty damn fast for an SUV?

I love getting on to the freeway and passing people when needed...it puts such a massive grin on my face...and now with the addition of my Ture Flow Intake...the sound and the increase in performance is there.


What do you think about the 4th gen. 4Runners speed?

Yes, it is definitely rather quick for an SUV. Although after having a 5.7L Tundra as a loaner for the day, my 4Runner seems slow!:D
 
lmbo, When I test drove mine, the loan manager was riding with me. As I merged onto I80, and I realized I had a really fresh horse under me, I put the spurs to her sides and let her go. :bugeye:The mangager actually went "Whoa whoa don't get a speeding ticket." I just laughed at him. Said I was feeling my oats.
Yeah, going from the I4 to this V8, oh yeah, I love my new HORSEpower. Feel slightly guilty for putting my foot into it though knowing my gas mileage is going right out the tail pipe. But boy o' boy, I love what my 4Runner does to the smile on my face! I'm waiting for the chance to really test it out the next time I get to pass someone via a passing lane.

I accelerates nice for a midsize SUV but the RAV4 runs high 14s in the 1/4 and that getting pretty quick.
 
lol, yay i love the torque and speed of the v8. but only do it once awhile if needed (getting away by those 5 inch lifted domestic truck with bright bright fog light on for no reason and getting away with those really pissed off tailgater).

most of the time i just drive calm, getting old now and also try to avoid citation..... speeding ticket isn't cheap nowadays....
 
110 on spedo is modest understatement, but on the other hand there is no need to go faster in a truck that can climp mountains and cross any terrain.
 
Well I knew it wouldn't take long. On my early early morning commute, there was a large cumbersome moving truck on my 2 lane country back road. There is a suicide lane on one part that I've used in the past as a passing lane. I tapped the gear shifter into 4th from D, and said lets go. And go she did! I passed the truck, yes safely, and after I had completed my pass, I started giggling like a nut! I love my V8 power! I grinned all the way into work.
 
My V6 does just great over in Germany on the Autobahn. 100mph cruising is no problem. Even merging is impressive. The V6 is NO slouch. Add in 20 mpg, the great ride and you know this truck will be in my inventory for a while!
 
I find the power of the V8 scary at times! Like when turning left at the light, juicing it to get across quickly, only to realize that everything in the car is now pinned against the right side of the car and I'm going 40mph by the time I'm through the turn. If it weren't for the farting exhaust associated with a led foot, I'd probably get 8 mpg in this thing!
 
It's too damn fast. Toyota should have just permanently have it at something like L2 and 1st gear. That'll learn all of us. The shifter would look like this:

The fastest I've gone was 90 on I-80. Some sh*thead teenage punk tried to cut me off while merging into the carpool lane. He flipped me off so I tailed him. I think he taken back by how well (and how fast) the 4runner kept up with his POS riceburner civic. I even slowed up and down just to mess with him. He started to panic because I waved my wife's CHP badge at him so he slowed down. I tailed him and motioned him to get off the road - and he did. I laughed myself to a piss and kept going. Yes, it was REALLY stupid on my part but I needed a pick me up to stay awake. I would be too scared anyway to do it again and go over 90, I'd be too chickensh*t to go triple digits on the speedo. This was all in the SR5 btw, I would NEVER do it in my Sport Edition. The hoodscoop would have caused too much drag. :p

That kinda goes with my hopes for the 5th gen. I really hope they put a 5.7L V8 in like the tundra and the Landcruiser.

I did the same thing with the test drive though, floored it. The salesman just said "At least you are a very good driver" because in Orange County they are used to 15 year old spoiled girls shopping for their new vehicle for their birthday in a few months. He said one of them almost jumped the curb while speeding.:bash:

I'm glad I got the V8 though. Plenty of power, especially since I upgraded from a 94 explorer, with a Ford V6, which is like a toyota i-4 hahaha.
 
It's great, normally, I go with the flow... but when I'm going to or coming back from the Sierras I'm always at speed limit or 5 above and that's where other vehicles fall behind and can't keep up.

I can keep up with traffic at least and if I see anything trying to pass me from the right, I can box them out with ease.

Are you serious??? 14's is pretty damn fast. Runner got enough power for me, and can get on the highway with no problems. Won't even compare to my civic though :)
