What do you wish you DIDN'T DO to your 4Runner?

I thought I'd see what people were wishing they had not done, installed or wasted their money on.

22 inch rims, i was younger and wanted them so i got them. Rims are like buying a new car, you loose a ridiculous amount of face value as soon as you buy them and install them. Plus they are so personalized in a sense of taste, you will almost always have trouble selling them. And when you do sell them it will be for a fraction of the cost you paid.:bash:

so all in all, it was a stupid financial decision on my part but i think i wanted it so it made me happy for a while.

Well...I didn't do it, but when I bought it it had an alarm.

I hate the alarm. If I turn it off, and then don't open the drivers door it will reset itself in a few minutes.

When we are packing for a trip and I am going in and out of the house loading the cargo area and roof rack the alarm will keep setting itself and then going off when I load something in it. I have gotten in the habit of turning it off and then going over to open the driver door to leave open.

I HATE CAR ALARMS AND YES I AM SCREAMING!!!!

(sorry, but that's as close I can get to your topic. I LOVE my 4runner...minus alarm)
 
when I bought my 04 Tacoma wheels, I put three in the back and one in the back seat...

well the back seat and back of the front passengers seat got covered in black shit, and same with the whole cargo area...

its been cleaned since but that was ****ing stupid of me....

I also wish i never kept bidding on those stupid AC slider knobs on eBay, ended up getting them for 20 bucks instead of like .89 like they go for now lol.. same with the wiper caps...


yeah not really anything that bad...

btw CSL: you shouldn't hate all alarms, I love mine, no resetting, remote start, remote with LCD display, its great. I can roll down all my windows with it :D

hate the player, not the game lol

not the fact that i got a brush guard but the fact i hit a ditch and bent it on one side lol.

probably tellin my g/f to get me my carbon fiber altezzas. but in defense i dont think the LEDs had came out just yet :D
 
My 97 4runner was already in a beaten shape by the time I got it.

The previous owner did a few mods on it, trying to go for an offroad look apparently..

So I guess I wish the previous owner didn't do:

1) put on a grille guard
2) put on a disgusting looking muffler tip (JUST THE TIP)
3) ruined the paint on the 4runner


For me, I wish I hadn't:

1) Dent my passenger fender when some ******* opened his car door and caused me crash into it.... what a douche.


That's all I can think of right now...
 
Well it's not so much what i didn't want done to it rather than buying a BLACK runner but some days i think to myself "that's one nice looking 4runner (when it's clean)". But it's my fault i got it and love it otherwise!
 
hmmm, probably the led bulbs for the turn signals in with the led tails... now my dash freaks out and thinks there is a bulb out in the system when in reality all the lights are working

but otherwise i have every factory part for my car so i can revert everything back to stock if i wish. figured it would be a good selling point down the road
 
bent the bottom bar on my grill guard pulling my my brother out of the mud with a tow rope wrapped around it, then ran into the back of my friends jeep.
 
I would have to say that I wish I had not let my dad barrow it Because he also backed it into a tree! this being said I don't know how he didn't see it because first you have to drive over three large rocks. ( mind you that this is all happening in reverse and in his own driveway!) then you hit a huge oak tree 5-6 feet in diameter and oh and about 6 stories tall. so that's the first thing the second would be viper alarm system with automatic start. this would piss me off so much. I would put the keys in my pocket and walk away from my truck thinking the truck was off and something would press the button on the keys in my pocket and start the truck up rite when I was far enough away not to here it start up. this happened more than once. and some of those times the truck had be running for an hour. had that removed asap! third and final would be that I bought a high low xenon kit off of e-bay and the high beams are less powerful than my running lights. live and learn I guess
 
The in channel vent visors were a waste of money. After a few years they squished the rubber seal for the window glass so you never will have a good seal without them on. Had to replace the seal that the window goes into when all the way up.

Ill never put anything between the glass and the seal again, that is for sure.
 
I regret getting the 4Runner undercoated! The Toyota dealership recommended it and they sprayed this tar crap all over the underside. The got it everywhere and every time I worked on the car I got that sticky tar on me. I just spent my summer steam cleaning and using mineral spirits to remove about 95% of that stuff.

why don't you download the owners manual and look up how to change the setting for the passive/active arming feature?


as far as my own 4runner ... i don't regret anything yet, but then i haven't done a lot to it, and i've owned so many modded cars at this point i've got a pretty good idea of what is a good idea and what isn't.
 
I could have gone without putting on the Dynomax. It already crapped out on me (after about a year of use) and rattles like no tomorrow at about 1,900 RPM

It was nice at first, but once it disabled me from sneaking in/out of my house (since it was so loud) I kind of lost interest in it
 
first of all lets get it clear that i truley love my runner... however, sometimes i regret putting the 3" lift in soley because of my cv joint issues!! luckily i already replaced them once and have a lifetime warranty, but im just sick of looking under my truck and seeing black grease seeping out haha. On the other hand it looks so much better with a lift that i guess i can deal with the cv bullshit:)

Have you installed a diff drop ? toyteclifts.com sells them :D
