What do you wish you DIDN'T DO to your 4Runner?

first of all lets get it clear that i truley love my runner... however, sometimes i regret putting the 3" lift in soley because of my cv joint issues!! luckily i already replaced them once and have a lifetime warranty, but im just sick of looking under my truck and seeing black grease seeping out haha. On the other hand it looks so much better with a lift that i guess i can deal with the cv bullshit

I second the diff drop, but what is up with your cv's?

I havent done a lot of stupid crap to my 4runner but my old 2000 tacoma...OH HOLY CRAP that was a doozy

-decided to take the muffler off so that when i went off roading it would sound cool...that was stupid! the exhaust sounded like a civic with those stupid f*cking exhaust things and i could never get it back on right. It would rattle all the time.

-decided to "TRY" to take my truck up carnage canyon, for those of you not from CO, its a 5 star off road, no,... off, off road trail and i pretty much destroyed the thing. That little decission cost me pretty much the price i paid for my 4runner

-and decided to sell it I really do miss that thing.

as for my 4Runner... i backed into my roommates lifted jeep and destroyed my lift gate. Not to metion that I !HATE! jeeps and he decided to remind me every day that there wasn't even a smudge of my black paint on his bumper.

Oh and last thing !!!F*CK FUELMAXX, DON'T EVER BUY THEIR STUPID SUPER CHIP!!! It makes the 5VZ run lean (too much air, not enough fuel).

second would be viper alarm system with automatic start. this would piss me off so much. I would put the keys in my pocket and walk away from my truck thinking the truck was off and something would press the button on the keys in my pocket and start the truck up rite when I was far enough away not to here it start up. this happened more than once. and some of those times the truck had be running for an hour. had that removed asap!

Chances are whoever installed that for you didn't know shit about alarms. My remote start only engages if the button is hit twice (and you have to press it pretty hard, security feature to prevent exactly what you just said). Not to mention the alarm only leaves the vehicle on for 12 (or whatever interval it is set, default is 12) minutes before auto shutoff. Please know what you are saying before you say it, someone just programmed yours like shit and most likely did not know what they were doing at all. DEI Viper alarms are very good alarms, and if you can't muster up the cash (or brains) to have it installed right, then with all do respect, go drive a Volvo.

Ok so i used to be a car audio installer at ultimate electronics and what happened to your viper system is a classic case of a, drum roll please... a faulty remote which if you bought it new viper covers for (when i was an installer) 5 years. ChildrenOfBodom is right, you have to hit the button twice and the default shutoff time is 15 mins (close enough). so what was happening was that your remote was deciding on its own that it wanted to start your truck. Now the smarter way to have gone about this would have been to call viper and say; hey this is whats up and then to tell them that because of their faulty remote that you just lost about $100 in gas and that something broke like, i dunno, something expensive and then make them accomidate you for your loses. And if they tell you the remote is fine then go tell the people you installed and tell them they owe you some $$$$$ but im guessing its too late for that

I replaced my old facroty motor antennae with a whip antennae from a Tacoma. It never stayed on, the mounting came loose, and it was impossible to re-route the radio wire back through the dashboard area. I haven't used the radio in years, partly because I don't use the radio, and partly because it doesn't work anymore. It still works okay for those iPod radio adapter things though.

I wish I hadn't installed a JL Stealthbox. You have to drill a hole up through the wheel well and cargo carpet to accommodate the large mounting bolt.

Love the space it gives me in the cargo area and the bass is acceptable, but if I ever want to remove it, I'll be faced with a hole straight through my truck that only Fred Flintstone could appreciate.

Covers the foot rest, 2nd row covers more & deeper dish.

Plus...I wish I didn't get the SR5. It's a great truck, but I don't like the black mirrors & chrome everywhere.

I second the diff drop, but what is up with your cv's?

Ya I installed the diff drop when i originally put the lift in. Being 13 years old, I assumed the reason the original cv boots blew was due to the angle change. So, when i purchased and installed new cv shafts, I also took out my top plate spacer, which i figured would relieve some of the stress. It helped but i have noticed some seeping from around where the boots clamp to the shaft, mainly on the passenger side. Hose clamps will do the trick for now until i figure out what to do. SAS would be nice but a little too $$$ for me right now. Wish toyota kept manual hubs on the 3rd gens thats for sure!!

I really don't have a mod that I whish I didn't do but I whish I didn't park my 4runner near deep creek and go for a nice hike last summer. Someone threw a rock threw my drivers side window and stole a set of kicker 12 inch subs. The faceplate off my stereo, my wallet my gf's purse, my zune and a bluetooth. Plus the was blood and broken glass inside the truck. I had a bad feeling about parking there. Sorry this isn't a mod story but I still regret no following my instincts that day. I love my 4runner.

I wish I had not done anything to my 4Runner. I have nothing against it, it just turned out that none of it was worth it. I bought my 96 4Runner limited for $5500. I bought an Old Man Emu 3" lift for $800. I bought BF Goodrich All Terrains for $800. I had to replace the Transmission, Transfer case, Flex plate and torque converter for $600 and 15 days of work in my garage. I also replaced the front passenger fender and headlight assembly for $350.

$2550 in Stuff I bought plus the original $5500. So I have a truck I paid $8000 for that has 200,000 mile that I will be lucky to re sell for $3000. And believe me...I am trying to sell the stupid thing. Anyone wanna buy a beater?

I went to Texas Roadhouse and an F-350 with about an 11-inch lift parked next to me. Had those wheels, and damn huge tires. haha
