What does this piece go to?

I found this small broken piece of something on the front driver floor mat today. It has threads in the middle and has some grease on it. Does anyone know what this is and where it goes?

It's a clip to one of the interio trim pieces. Look at the plastic under the glove box. You'll find more of them holding the panels on.

Thanks for the guesses. It's definitely a thing. It's not a cashew. I wouldn't think it is a clip for an interior piece because it has grease on it, for easy sliding or something like that, but I will get under the dashboard tomorrow and look around.

A lot of people have issues with the sunroof rattling, and a lot of people suggest putting a "thing" in to brace these bars. You can see the small guide bars on outside of the sunroof channel when the sunroof is open. I used a small semi-circle bushings to brace mine. Just a thought though.

Another thought. It could be a bushing for a spring under the drivers dash. There was a huge issue with squeaky clutch springs in 1st gen tacomas. These spring bushings would wear out, or fall off, and in turn create a squeak when compressin the pedal. The bushings look very similar to what you found

Anyway, could it be something that stuck to your shoe and brushed off. Was the grease dirty?

I was thinking that but I doubt I brought it in on my shoe. The grease was not dirty.

Hey bob, thanks. I'm not an idiot. Read what I wrote again. I said it could be a spring bushing. I never implied that our 4runners were offered with a manual transmission. We all appreciate your hasty sarcasm though.

check the door panel, by the mirror area, should be a push pin clip like the front radiator support cover.

might want to check the hood latch release or fuel door release.

Do not recognize it, other than a cashew, but if it has clean grease on it, could be from under the seat and part of the sliding system.

Thanks for all the ideas, everyone. I took the panel under the steering wheel off and looked around and did not see anything this might have gone to. Looked under the seat as best I could and again didn't see anything. I suppose I will just have to wait and see if anything happens to break or not work correctly to figure it out. If I find something I will post up.

My apologies gtb129 didn't mean to upset you. Anyway, gtb129 you could be on to something with the pedal assembly. Looking at the part diagram to the brake pedal assembly in the upper right of the diagram a stop screw looking thing appears, it has a simalar threaded donut looking thing on it. I'll try to post an attachment of the diagram.
Part #pnc 84340 I'm referring too.
Edit : make that upper left.

I looked at the brake pedal but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Its tight up in there, though. I'll try again and see what I can find.

Parker 1938, Is there a Dealership close by where you might ask a Service Writer, Parts Dept and 2-3 Specialist Mechanics? Plus, can you get a clear pic (inside and outside). It appears to be half of a bushing or guide from what I feel I am seeing. Is that correct? I took a quick glance under my 07 SR5, pulled hood and fuel latches and took a fair look at the brake assembly. I’ll spot ck under the front of the Driver’s seat later.

Have you done any repairs to your Truck or other projects lately?

Good suggestion on the dealership. I believe you are right that it is half a bushing or a guide of some sort. I have not done any repairs to this area. The hunt continues.

Update: The other half of the broken plastic piece, see first post, fell on to the driver front floor mat today. It definitely came from under the dash somewhere. When the first half broke off, I was never able to see where it came from. Nothing seems to be wrong with the steering, brakes, gas pedal, or steering column. I'll look again and try to figure it out and report back.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Any clue to what it goes to?
