I bought the truck last July with 74,000 and change miles and have all the service records from the frist owner. I asked about the timing belt and he said he couldn't remember (including my truck, he had 4 other Toyotas/Lexus..yup, he had a lot of money). I then went to his mechanic who is is brother-in-law and asked if he remembers doing it and he didn't remember either. So I'm going to do it anyway. I asked my mechanic about prices and he said about 500.00 (NY prices) but then Toyota said between 600-700 depending on what other parts I should have done. I rather have Toyota do it because they are, who they are, Toyota.
I'm going to do the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, the water pump seal.
I asked the Toyota service guy what else would you change in this job and he responded that you want to change the Upper and Lower Radiator hose, the Crank Shaft Seal, and the Cam Shaft Seal.
I love this truck very much and plan on keeping well into the 100,000 miles area or if I'm presented with a steal of a deal in the form of another 4Runner.
Anything else should I have replaced? Any imput would be greatly appercaited.
