I'll start by saying that I do not currently or ever have owned a 4runner, so bewarned.
I am however in the market for one, and was really looking for a 3rd gen (5 speed). After having difficulty finding one without a rotted out frame (Im in NJ), I started looking at 4th Gen 4runner. I stopped when I started researching, and found people complaining about not being able to engage 4HI (V6 models), and the center diffs not locking due to faulty actuators (not excersized enough apparently), which are expensive to replace. Reminded me of my xterra and the push button 4WD issues I had. I Figure the least amount of electronics the better long term.
My 2 cents, not worth much. BTW I didnt vote since I do not have any direct experience with any of the gens.
