What have you done to make your front seats more comfortable?

Short of swapping the seats out, what have you done to improve comfortability in your front seats? The Subaru I drove before my 4Runner had nice seats; ditto the Alero before that. On long trips I've found that I get a sore lower back even with the lumbar support on the cloth seats. I do a lot of yoga and stretch when I take breaks, which alleviates the problem, but I'd like to do something to make the seats more bearable on long trips.

You know you can adjust the lower lumbar support right?

I've never had any issues with the seat, but my frame is thin so that might be why.

How many miles are on your rig? I replaced the bottom foam on mine soon after I got it and that made it feel much plusher. I have the power leather seats and the lumbar and lower cushion angle are both adjustable so I can go up, down or in and out. I put 30k a year on my truck and can't complain about the seats.

Big fat guy checking in—my leather seats have 368,306 miles on them and they are torn to shit with the foam visible all over. They are also by far the most comfortable seats I've ever owned.

I guess 4runners are just fatboy-friendly.

mrtucker80 - 138,000km, so 86,250 miles. The foam feels fine - I think it's more the angle. It's an SR5 and didn't come with the multi-position seats - just forward and back, with the tilt on the upper portion.

Install some of these to make it feel better. LOL

I don't really think there's anything you can do short of replacing the seat foam If it is worn. I believe the lack of comfort comes more from seating position and cockpit layout than from the seats themselves. I find as a tall person that the seating position is like that of a compact car with your legs sticking straight out and head touching the ceiling. The dash and heating controls are too far away and the seats are too close to the ground. My 2000 VW golf feels larger inside than the 4runner does.

I just unfold from the cockpit once in awhile and stretch.

I'm swapping in front seats from a volvo v70.

I know you said short of doing that, buuuuuut its worth all the time and effort to use something that's fundamentally better than the stock seats.

Mine are the same seats without the lumbar support & they suck, even when new. I bought a foam lumbar support pillow from CVS & it works great. I'm sure Amazon has something.
This summer I'm going switch the bottom cushion with the passenger side since it's rarely been used.

I had 7 Caddy's before the 4Runner & there's nothing more comfortable.

I have an 01 sport and find the seats firm but comfortable. Drove from Nashville to Chicago and back (12 hours each way with kids) a couple weeks ago and was quite comfortable. I'm a skinny guy too. But, that said, I can't say what should be comfy for you.

Have you tried padded seat covers? Some even have added lumbar support, that might help.

yes, when we were car shopping recently for my GF I test drove a 2002 SE & the seats were very comfortable.

97 limited with typically worn out seat covers that im gonna have reupholstered and have been thinking about adding gel foam (like the stuff wheelchairs use) for added comfort. anyone gone this route?

I saw someone swap in Land Rover Discovery seats in a 4Runner, there's a thread if you search. Now those seats are comfy! Not for tall people though, you'll hit your head.

Same problem with my 97's - torn and worn out. Added Wet Okole set covers because they look nice and it was cheaper then re-upholstering. That said the thick mil neoprene makes them crazy comfy. Only drawback it they tend to trap heat.

were talking about manual cloth without the lumbar support.
I'm 6ft with long legs, if my seat went back one more click I'd probably have less weight on my lower back.

Mine also has an adjustment to tilt the the seat cushion up and down, does yours have that? It's great for tall people, I'm 6'2" and can sit comfortably.

That's the round dial on the side right? I wish I had that. I love 6 way power seats, I can always find the right position.
If I could co back in time I would have ordered power leather, 6cyl & e-Locker. :-)

This is similar to what I bought from CVS a few years ago.
