How many miles do you have and what have you had to replace?

I'm getting sick of replacing stuff on my discovery weekly with 100k

Transmission and power steering hoses.
Head gasket
Radiator



And leaks that I cannot locate!

Sunroof leaks
Coolant leak ,??
Windscreen leak

Exhaust leak (not trucks fault)
Water in headlights. Sagging blinkers.

But the truck can go anywhere. 4runner can't do the stuff it can but I'm sick of being paranoid about stuff breaking leaving me stranded. Bad gas mileage always fixing tuff.

Left me stranded twice in 15k

Hey Spencer, I have friends with Disco's and they're great trucks but do tend to be high maintenance as you're seeing. Generally owners have to be good with a wrench to keep it running smoothly and dependable. I've only owned Toyotas since my first in the '70's because of the reliability. I can't provide a real answer to your question because I just picked up my 4Runner a few weeks ago and it's at the dealer now getting the long overdue timing belt replaced. You can't go wrong with a Toyota IMHO, I just sold my 1988 Land Cruiser FJ62 with 280k miles on it. The buyer flew in and drove it 14 hours home w/o any concerns or issues.
 
I only have 32k miles on my 4th gen and haven't had to replace anything other than wiper blades, oil, air filter...

I had 152k miles on my '00 3rd gen before I sold it to a friend. Other than normal PM stuff, I had to replace a MAF sensor, a left rear wheel bearing seal... I can't recall anything else of importance. Water pump was changed at my discretion with the timing belt PM.

I had 205k miles on my '90 2nd gen before I sold THAT to a friend. Other than normal PM stuff, I replaced the following once each: alternator, front axle boots, clutch, brakes, (head gasket at 100,000 at no charge due to a recall). Water pump was changed twice at my discretion with the 2 timing belt PMs. Oh, yeah. I was really pissed and was going to write Toyota a nasty letter. One of my tailight bulbs kept burning out every 20k-30k miles.
 
my sister had a fully loaded disco and that truck was a money pit pos. i've had my 4runner since new and has 65k miles... had to replace one tire from running over a board with a nail on it on the highway and get the moonroof fixed under warranty and that's about it. well also change the oil every 5k, changed the diff/transfer case oils at 30k with syn, and will have to change the brakes for the first time soon.
 
I love it's capabilities looks and uniqueness.

I can fix anything I'm just getting tired of having the what now/next attitude. I want to not give a **** about it for a while but that seems impossible.

I have owned a 4runner 3rd gen. It never gave me problems but I also want something "newer"
 
I've got 95k miles on my '03 4Runner. I've done the brakes a couple times, including front calipers last time around. I think my rear discs are bad now as well.

I've had the left front wheel bearing replaced. The skid pads rusted to oblivion, so I went aftermarket for that. The rear 1/2 of the exhaust system had to be replaced (not the cat converter, thank goodness). I've replaced the tires early because I hated the OEM Dunlops. I had the rear hatch motor and strike plate replaced. I had the heater fan replaced. I had the timing belt service done as well (timing belt, water pump, drive belts, etc.).

As for bad gas mileage, mine is pretty horrible. I'm averaging around 15 mpg in my suburban/city commute. I might get 17-18 mpg on a clear highway with no stop-and-go.

In general, I think the reliability has been decent. The truck has never stranded me, but it hasn't exactly been cheap to maintain.
 
98k miles 03 limited

all electrical stuff outside of regular maintenance items like filters and brakes...

-servo motor
-ac relay
-lcd bulb
-front signal bulb
 
About 95,000 miles. Other than the usual maintenance stuff, all four calipers, both front wheel bearings, and a hose and gasket from the AC system. Oh, and the mag clutch replay for the AC.
 
As a former LR owner, I can totally relate. I really miss my '99 Range, but I love not having to go to the garage on a monthly basis.
 
My choice was between an '05 T4R and an '03 Discovery. I chose the T4R because you can't beat Toyota quality on their flagship vehicles and the LR was a Ford during the mass market SUV era.

That said, I bought at 50k and am now at 81k. I just replaced the front brakes and have done regular service (oil, filter(s), lube).

The only problem I have is with the stereo. Its a JBL HU and I'm on my second. I replaced the first gen fourth gen (there have been two body styles on the fourth gen 03-05, 06 -09...thus 2g 4g) stereo with a second gen fourth gen jbl and its still giving me trouble.

Other than that...she's been a hoss!
 
06 V8 and I have to replace the gas all the time!!!


No issues to report. Even the tires were good, but I went bigger.

I love the Toyota cause I like to turn key and go. I'm VERY happy there are so many Land Rover fans. I love the way they look and the Range Rover is sexy, but I don't want to know my mechanic by first name and support his kids college fund. I'd take a D90 in a heartbeat though.
 
So far nothing other than tires and factory parts that were replaced with high performance parts. My 4Runner has been nothing short of perfect expect for the need of more power.
 
Ok, I have to continue bragging (in addition to the 3, T4R's discussed in post #3)...

Of my other non-T4R Toyotas, there were/are:

1981 Celica - Sold with 178,000 miles in showroom condition. Replaced alternator, fan clutch, rear wheel bearing, exhaust (twice), rear brakes (once)

1988 Camry - Sold with 215,000 miles in good condition except it needed struts and the tranny was beginning to act up. Replaced alternator, front & rear brakes 3 times (the ex was tough on brakes), exhaust (once).

1997 Camry - My youngest son is still driving it at 180,000 miles. Other than brakes and exhaust, I don't believe much else beyond a bad O2 sensor.
 
I have a 2002 with 136K miles. I replaced the front brakes (pads and rotors) several months ago. Other than that, only regular expected maintenance items - fluids, air filter, wipers, etc., and the timing belt and H2O pump at 110K. This does not include all the upgrades and modifications as they were choices and not "have to's".
 
2006 Sport 4WD, V6.

Replaced anything? Not really, other than a K&N panel vs. the OEM paper filter and an Optima battery.

Repaired anything? Yes. Wife put a parking lot stripe on an adjacent mini-van, which mandated a fender, bumper, interior fender liner & bits, fog lamp & (of all things) a new radiator.

Right now I have a fubar sunroof seal, so that will require a true replacement of some variety (a self fix isn't real promising for that piece). Stock radio freaks out once in a blue moon with voodoo that goes away with an ignition off reset.

Everything else is holding strong at just under 100K miles.

Getting ready for front brakes & rotors. Stainless brake lines. New plugs. And two new tires on the front.

Mine's new to me with 115k and just relaced the timing belt, front brakes and had the tranny flushed. still need a battery, ps flush, pcv valve & plugs.
 
'03 Limited 4WD V8, 102K miles (average approx 40 miles/day).

Other than 5K oil changes and 30K other fluid changes, I replaced:

- OEM air filter with TRD Performance filter.
- OEM cabin filter with OEM charcoal filter.
 
108xxxkms (67K miles) on mine. Had it about 2.5 yrs now and put on 40xxxkms (25K miles) myself, other than PM I think one of the bottom latches of the back seat seatbelts just gave up on me. No doubt the result of my 2 little girls with their small toys/snacks that probably jammed up inside.
Oh yeah, 2 turn signal bulbs too (i know.. i know.. POS ;):)

Service history from the dealer when I bought it certified used showed no issues before me either.
 
It's got about 63K on it now and I've owned my '03 since new. The only non-scheduled maintenance related repair was the AC Relay ($60) about a year ago. Other than that just the usual wear and tear stuff: fluid changes, filters, brake pads, and tires.
