What is factory tint?

Does anyone in here have the factory tint option of $199 on their 4runner? Is the tint package just on the rear windows like all SUV or everywhere including the front? If they decided to tint the front, I figure that it is at least 40% due to legal issues.

get it done yourself. mine cost $60. BTW, rear tint registered at 27%, not the usual 20%. Good news is that it's a little closer match to 35-40%.

What car has 20% as factory rear tint?

If I'm not mistaken the 3rd and 4th Gens was probably 27% too. 20% matched best though.

my tint guy said all rear tints he's worked with were 20. maybe different for 4R?

This man is totally correct!!

Factory privacy glass is around 25%...and 20% matches it best.

And once again for the new members...it's not tint, it's Privacy Glass.

There's no UV protection...so if you want to retain the appearance, I would throw on 50% on the rears, so you and your children are protected by UV Rays.

I had the 20% 3M installed...looks good...not exact (and I'm pretty picky and it doesn't bother me) Cost was 120$...Rockland Co. in NY...not really known for it's great pricing, but a nice clean job done over lunch hour.

I love the look from the exterior...a little more "finished" looking.

From Toyota.com, 2010 4Runner specs:

Rear privacy glass and electric rear window defogger with timer and UV protection

Same thing is listed in the '05 and '06 4Runner brochure.

Proof: Transition(tm) lenses do NOT darken in the 4Runner or just about any vehicle since the 1990's. Tell an optometrist you want Transition(tm) lenses for driving, and if they're not sales driven, they will tell you don't bother if your glasses are only for driving.

How much UV protection is offered is the unknown.
