What is the most optimal balanced tire pressure?

in search of a good balance between ride quality and better gas consumption, what tire pressure do you run on your 4Runners? lets put a tire size, stock Sport Edition tires.

I run about 34 psi in my Michelin Cross-Terrains. Seems to be the best balance between performance, comfort, and mileage in my case.

+1 for 34 psi. No clue about gas mileage, but I think it's the best combination of handling and ride comfort. Running with stock 18" P265/60R18 Michelin Cross Terrains.

35 psi on both trucks. Comes out to about 37 psi when running hot. Not too mushy, not too bouncy, just right.

Bridgestone REVOs 275/70-16 at 35 for winter use.

40 PSI is better for fuel economy but I find the ride too rough.

As an aside to the thread, how do you like the Silent Armor tires?

I am considering them for my next set (along with the Revos and Pirelli Scorption ATR) - if these damn Michelin Cross Terrains ever wear out.! (I have 55K and still have lots of trea left)

I like the CTs for on-road/highway use but would like to have something better in winter as well as the mild - moderate off-road conditions we encounter during our camping excursions.

The Silent Armors have great reviews for off-road conditons as well as snow and ice traction but at the expense of mileage due to their weight.

The Silent Armors are fair to good. I've posted a few times on a thread I started last year about these tires, but I will give you my opinions now after having put about 30,000 miles on them.

Living in Florida, I of course cannot speak to any winter conditions.

My take on them is that they are ok. As far as appearance is concerned, they really LOOK great. They ride smoothly and are quiet.

Now, Goodyear's website touts the extra rubber for cushioning purposes, supposedly to better absorb road imperfections. I have NOT noticed any difference between the Goodyears, the Cross Terrains I had earlier, or Maxxis tires on my girlfriend's Tahoe.

True, the extra weight of the tire has made gas mileage suffer by 2 mpg or so.

And - my biggest complaint - they hydroplane too easily for me. Living down here, I need a better wet-traction tire....so I probably will not buy these again. YMMV.

I only bought these bc I got all four of them for less than $600 out the door - mounted, balanced, tax, you name it.

My next tire will be the Maxxis Bravo HT 760. They ride great, they are quiet, the wet traction is great and they are $100 bucks a tire.

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting comments re. the hydroplaning. You did get a good price based on my preliminary research.

REVO, they are very good in bad weather and will never hydoplane. They will not last as long as the CT but they can go off road. There has been more talk about tires then I care mention so do a search and grab some popcorn.
