What is the most popular air filter being used

I just wanted to know what air filter is everybody using? What air filter has every one been pleased with? Im going to do the deckplate mod Monday and just want to know what filter everyone is using? Thanks

You understand im trying to get everyones opinion even though I think I will probably go with the true flow. Is the K&N and The fram airhogg Gause type air filters? Oh and does trueflow make an intake kit?

Is everybody using paper oem filters?

I thought the paper filters were not that great. Will someone explain why yall are using the oem filters? Is it bad to use an aftermarket filter?

I personally just haven't really thought about putting a high performance air filter on mine, that is all

Our NA 4Runners aren't performance (power/speed) oriented so going nuts with a pricey aftermarket kit when proven cheap mods produce the same whp gain then you're just burning money.

Deckplate lays down same 7-8whp on a dyno as a $200+ K&N intake and costs about $50 with a good aftermarket drop-in. If you don't off-road and just want the ponies just cut a clean 4" hole in the airbox and you're set. Some people buy the kits for looks since that's really the only diff between the two.

I'd like to upgrade my whole intake pipe and ditch the ISR just for the uncluttered look and easier to work on stuff.

Cheaper, and when you start using oil on the K&N filter it tends to get sucked in through the air flow meter and gunks up the sensor and throws a CEL, there are some threads on this subject in this forum and other forum sites, just gotta search : and all will become clear...but as soon as K&N comes out with the NANO FIBER or foam drop in for our stock air cleaners then we will see some minds change, about the after market filters These will not need any oiling..... hope this helps...

ive used the kn drop-in filtercharger in my 94 3.slow for a few months a few years ago with no noticeable diffence, other than noise. went back to oem on the 94 and 02. i've also heard that k/n's suck up oil especially if overoiled. what turned me off about the k/n's if if you hold it up to the light, you can actually see pinholes of light coming thru the filter even when oiled. simpler and cleaner to drop in an oem

Thanks for all the input you guys have given me!

I just finished up my deckplate mod and I did the isr mod the other night. I kept the oem filter cause a lot of people told me that an aftermarket filter was a waste of money:biggrin2: ! So I got done a took it for a test drive. The truck felt good! Little bit faster, the gas pedal felt a little different. It rides a lot smoother through the gears. Its got a beefy tone to it now! Its pretty loud when you floor it! Im overall pleased with the mods and feel like I saved an ass load of money doing it. Saved monet and got the same results if I were to buy an expensive intake system! Thanks for everybodies support and keeping me from buying the aftermarket intake! It feels so much better when you do it yourself!

Did you remember to reset the ECU? Here's a quote from a thread about this mod/subject of deckplate....

Also: for ecu response. not sure how long it takes. I heard one full tank should do it. I recomend taking out the ecu because its performing as if you hadn't done the mod and therefore its basically like adding extra air but not changing the performance. I've actually taken it out a couple times because when i first did it was flying around everywhere and wasting gas like heck (i get like 12-13 mpg on average, basically what i got before the mod but i go faster now). I take it out basically when i change my driving habbits. When i stopped flooring it all the time i started noticing harder shifts and after resetting the ecu it was better.

The ecu: open the fuse box, look on the inside and it should tell you. I have a 98 and on the left side of the fuse box (if standing at the front of the vehicle) has like a 20amp fuse with 3 15amp fuses below it. The middle 15amp fuse is for the ecu. Check the fusebox diagram tho (should be stuck onto the inside cover of the box or in the manual...also search this site and yotatech.com forums if you don't find it)

Your year/truck might be in a different location, there's a fuse box by the drivers leg and one in the engine bay, just gotta fine the ECU fuse and unplug it for a minute or two or do what others do and just disconnect the negative battery terminal maybe for 5 minutes, just that doing it that way you have to reset the radio/ clock, it's just as if you were clearing a cel code, unless you never had to clear a code, but basically that should be it :bigok:
