What is this harness on 99 3rd Gen timing belt cover?

Hello,

What is this harness located on the top passenger side timing belt cover?

It seems that there are some frayed wires exposed underneath bottom of harness. Can this be a problem? I have no codes.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I believe that is the Camshaft position sensor.

What about that frayed ground wire leading to bottom of harness. Does it connect to anything? I can't see where it would.

I'm not seeing any frayed wires there. The cam sensor is a non-grounded two wire sensor. (well, the sensor body is bolted to the engine, but the wires in/out are isolated from the sensor case)

Feel free to unclip and check the condition of things there... it might just be build of up something 'fuzzy' that is confusing you.

It is the noise reducing metal wire surround/insulator, if I am right.

Right i just checked mine, as the camshaft sensor is new ( reman engine) and am having a nO START issue, working through the FSM procedure. Anyway, had to check the resistance of that sensor. The sensor part has a shielding, like a guitar cable. Not the actual harness though.
