What is this small box under truck below fuel filler?

Can anyone help identify what this small box is underneath the truck directly below where you fill the tank with gas? It has a tube going into it which comes from where you fill the truck with fuel and wire loom coming out of it.

Some sort of overflow sensor or something? I got help from some other members who suggested it might be an evap cannister, but I believe that is the item to the right of it (the larger shoebox looking box in the picture).

Please help tell me what this small box is (see red arrow in the pic). I had to move it a bit to mount an air compressor and was wondering if it had to be level, or could be rotated or tilted etc, but it has also made me curious to try to identify it. Seemed odd to have a box that fluid goes into then seemingly just stops there and has wires coming out of it. Thanks!

That is the output from the charcoal canister. It is the "to atmosphere" line. When the valve opens on the charcoal canister it vents through there. I'm not sure why it isn't just a direct line, because I pulled that down on mine the other day and it is just a hollow cavity, like a reserve tank, although it doesn't pressurize from what I know.

i "think" its just a design "thingy" to keep dirt out of things and not into the gas tank venting system

Perhaps it's there to reduce the chances of fuel backflowing into the charcoal filter on fill up. If so, it would make sense that the out line from the evap canister connects above the line gong out to the fill neck.

If this were the case, I wouldn't try manipulating it's orientation, as you asked, until you find out what it does exactly.

I know that it never sees fluid, it is only for vapors.
