I found the below wire (looks like an antenna wire to me) behind my dash and it didn’t appear to be plugged into anything. I have a 2001 4Runner sr5 with an aftermarket radio. The antennna goes up and down and the radio has power but while driving today the radio lost sound. I found the wire last night and when I went to bed the radio was still working. Any help is appreciated

Does your rear passenger window have "wires" in it. If so that is an antenna. the stock radio had two antenna plug ins. One runs the power antennae the other is to the rear window. Some people when putting in an aftermarket get the reverse splitter ( don't know the correct term,on amazon) that connects both antenna and sends one to the new radio.
Some people, including me, have installed a small rocker switch, so that when I am on the back roads with long overhang branches, I can hit the toggle and the power antenna goes down ( so it can t be snapped off by a branch) yet I will still have radio reception, weak, from the rear window.
It also allows me to have my cd player on and not have my antenna go up.

Yep wires in the rear most passenger window but no switch so I guess I have the splitter type setup. Now time to find the end where both antenna wires meet the splitter.

They call the 2nd antenna the diversity antenna. I just bought the Y splitter and adapter a couple of days ago and will be combining the two once I get them.

I bought the Y splitter and the mini antenna adapter when I installed the scion radio in the 97.

Tell me about the toggle switch, please.
to be honest, its been a few years ,
so I read threads about it, and installed one. I got a mini rocker switch from amazon and installed it next to my radio. then the wire that runs the antenna out of the radio to the antenna, I cut and ran to my mini rocker then to the antenna. I remember back then there were threads about what rockers, how to install and the conversion plug
although when I bought my 4runner it had been dealer maintained with the exception of the radio. an aftermarket had been installed and instead of using a conversion plug, they just cut wires, it was a mouse nest, so I don't remember what wire was the power feed.
