I mostly ride my motorcycle, but I have been leaning towards riding my bicycle to work. It's only 2 miles door to door and 1 mile of that is getting out of the neighborhood to the main road. It's tough to make myself ride a bicycle though when I've got this parked next to it in the garage.

Just an old Honda Civic that returns 40+ mpg on the highway--hard to get rid of it with the price of fuel anymore.

Just bought this Probe GT Turbo 5 speed for $500 with a blown motor. It's based on the same engine/platform as the Mazda MX-6.
Pulled a motor from Pick Your Part yesterday, should be running within the week.
I will enjoy getting twice my 4Runner's mileage.
N/A motor, higher compression pistons.
The turbo block at 12PSI has about the same power as an N/A block at 7PSI... will be running an N/A longblock @ 12PSI using a T25 Saab Turbo
According to my Mazda GD platform buddy, still achieves 35mpg lol
Pulled a motor from Pick Your Part yesterday, should be running within the week.

I bought my 2005 4Runner for DD service and eventually a "family truckster". My 350Z was getting beat up as a DD so now it sets in the garage for weekend fun.
Nice pick up and good luck on the engine install. Should serve you well with the mpg provided you're not on the gas too much! I had a 1990 PGL for 14 years that served me well until a Benz ran a red light and totalled it.

Do you use AC that much? i find that only like 3-4 days a year that AC seems like a required option, I've only ever used AC a handful of times when i have been in the car alone, on the other hand, I'm not usually in stop and go traffic for hours at a clip. I just wouldn't be able to justify an AC retrofit.

I love the B5 styling though, although I'd rather have one with a 2.7 compared to 1.8 or 2.8

This is true, although if I was to do a 2.7 all over again. I would buy another AR.. I just got rid of mine and regret ever selling it. It was by far the end all/be all of Avants.
PS: You have the 2.0 FSI right?

For sure, the C5 is timeless!!! But (For me)only the AR, reason being is the AR has a wider stance/fenders than the regular C5 A6 Avant. Wife and I were thinking/looking at a b7 Avant Within the next 18-24 months, what's your take on the b7? Aside from all the sludge hype of course.
