what is your "EDC kit" for your truck?

exactly what the title says. what tools, gear, or parts do you keep in your 4runner every day? thought it would be interesting to see what everyone considers a "must have", and maybe give each other a couple ideas on things we wouldnt have thought of.


mines pretty simple as i just bought the truck about a month ago. a full electrical repair kit including crimping pliers, wire, connectors, tape, fuses, fuse tester, test leads, battery terminals, etc. basically if anything on the truck electrical tears, rips, or burns out i can fix it well enough to get it home. recovery bag with snatch block, tow ropes, line weight, ratchet straps, and D rings. also keep a pair of leather gloves in the side, and a cheap ODBII reader. cheap 12v air compressor. jumper cables. 120 piece tool set. mud boots. tire plug/patch kit. high intensity shock proof flash light. cheap come-a-long just in case. extendable lug wrench set. up front i keep a snap on multi tool and and a survival headlamp in the center console.



so, what do you guys keep in yours?

Ahhhh man the list is sooooooo long. To preface this I built a cargo system like BrianSD_42's. In it I have 2" and 1 7/8" hitch receivers, D ring hitch receiver, a 1/4" & 3/8" socket set, hammer, pliers set, bolt cutter, crescent wrench set, sae & metric box end wrench set, 26" axe, foldable shovel/pick, one of those 8" survival knifes from harbor freight, like 5 other smaller knives, multi tool, giant rubber bands, paracord, bungee cords, 4 ratchet straps, tarp, 3 flashlights(one nice one and 2 cheap ones), recovery strap, 12v portable air compresser, tire repair kit, jumper cables, lighter, matches, couple mre's when it's winter, snow scraper, breaker bar with lug nut socket, 42" hi lift that I gotta build a custom mount for like the one on Sonoran steel, gloves. And then I have a separate bag that I sometimes leave in there when I think I'm gonna need it with a raincoat, towel, spare clothes, toiletries, etc.

I like the idea of an electrical repair kit I'm gonna have to look into that.

I have a 12v compressor, power pack / jump box, fuses, voltmeter, shackles, recovery strap, flashlight, tire plug kit, gloves, ratchet straps. All fits in a hardside carry case I can throw in another vehicle.

I would recommend that you put VERY LITTLE to ZERO faith in a cheap come-a-long! The frame can twist and fail. The points for pins or hinges can deform and release suddenly. Hooks can snap. And all that is assuming that the cable and the cable clamps don't fail suddenly first. I'm sure you know about all that, I just want to stress it for everyone

I like your addition of the mud boots. I carry too much to list when you consider all that's in my tool kit. I'll try to get a photo later.

Oh definitely. I've had them fail and bend before. But they are pretty useful for getting big branches out of the way and stuff. We've actually used one before when we tore a leaf spring mount completely off the frame and the spring pack was angle outwards. Winched it back in place and left the come a long under the truck holding it together while we limped it back home. Like any tool, you have to be careful and know the limits of the tool.

I figured that I would keep all my 4Runner stuff in one place, in My Build Thread. Specifically, my carry gear starts with this post: What I Carry.

On my seat backs, I keep a fire extinguisher, maglite, rachet and socket set, utility knife and a few other odds-and ends.

In a trouble bag in the back, I have a 12v Viair compressor, tire plug kit, high vis vest, LED trouble lights, basic first aid kit, and a rain shell. The cargo box has a 6-ton bottle jack, ratchet straps, breaker bar and lug sockets, and a full set of camping gear with half a dozen MREs, just in case things go really sideways. I have a 5 gallon jerry can that I intend to carry too, but I need to work out how to secure it against a roll-over before including it.

Question for those more experienced: thoughts on a hi-lift jack? I have read some down opinions on them, but I have good jack points on my new bumpers and think I should invest in one. Any reason not to? They seem well regarded here.

i havent purchased one for myself because i still have factory bumpers, so no where to lift with it safely. i have friends who swear by them and have even used them as very slow winches. only issue ive ever heard of is just being careful that they do not slip and let the truck fall
