What kind of fuel fitting is this?

What is this fitting? I dropped my fuel tank and this fitting was particularly difficult to remove. Now, when putting it back together, it is not as tight as it was and seems like the red part may need to be replaced? I'm hoping I don't have to replace the entire tube.

You can see at the bottom of the last picture the fuel line that it is supposed to go on. This line runs from the front of my gas tank to the hard fuel line mounted to the body that you see at the bottom of the last picture.

Additional info...

The connector shows a logo that reads "TGS" and there is a serial number printed on it, which I believe reads ">PA12-6F23<" or ">PA12-GF23<"

Any ideas?

I had no luck in finding a replacement part number for that piece so headed out to pick and pull. Ended up finding one on a 2000s era Lexus GS400. After removing them once they do seem to be much looser fitting but mine hasn't caused any leaks yet.

In to find out of anybody has more success in finding a replacement so I can swap mine as well.

How long have you been running your loose replacement fitting?

Do you have a picture of what it should look like when it's put together? The reason I ask is because I don't know if I'm trying to install it backwards or upside down. Can't find a picture of it anywhere on the internet.

that clip holds that line to the hard line going to the filter. a special tool is needed to remove that line from the hard line. it slides on the hard line and pushes it outward to release. you should be able to get a new one at the parts store, as that line is part of the sending unit. if you need one, find one at a local yard.

I don't have a picture but after messing with it for a while I finally figured out the reassembly. First thing is that clip goes into the holder before you insert the other (male end) line. You will notice that the inner pegs of the clip are ramped to one direction so you want to have the clip inserted so it ramps towards the outside. So when you push the line in it will push the clip outwards and then snap back over when the bubble flare is past the ramp. That is what holds it from backing out. Kinda tough to describe without pictures

I've never seen that before, and I've disassembled every part of my fuel system.

Is it a 99+ model thing?

gamefreakgc, I have a 2001 4Runner SR5 and it looks like it's stock. This line (and another soft line) starts at the top of the fuel pump, runs around the top edge of the gas tank, and then meets a hard line towards the front of the gas tank that goes to the fuel filter.

01thunder, I'm headed to Autozone to check their fuel line fitting clips. I'll post back if they have anything, but I'm not terribly hopeful.

mikentosh, thanks for that explanation. I'm going to give that a shot and hope I can get it on without snapping the clip and breaking it.

Followed mikentosh's instructions and it worked to get the red ring on the fitting properly. Then, I realized my real problem--I was trying to plug the connection into the wrong line.

After 01thunder mentioned that the fitting in my original post was for the line running to the fuel filter, I realized I had the wrong line. There are two hard lines that attach to two soft lines on the front side of the gas tank and I had them mixed up. Once I figured that out, both soft lines easily re-plugged into the correct hard lines and I was good to go.

I'm just glad I waited to try and start it until after I figured out this mistake.
