What kind of hitch is this?

Can someone help me please. I have a 2004 V6 4Runner that I wanted to try and upgrade the towing capacity on, and recently bought a hitch. It is supposed to be a hitch from a V8 4runner, and it looks about the right size to fit mine, but the only holes that line up are the ones closest to the front of the vehicle.

I could redrill the mounting holes to fit my vehicle, but I don't know if it would do any good, because I have no idea now if the hitch rating is actually higher than the 5000# one that came factory on mine.

Could someone help me identify what kind of hitch this is? The part # is PT214-89990, and it mounts at 4 places along each framerail, with no attachment at the center point. The crossbar is a squarish type steel.

Errrrrrrrrrr............ a TOW hitch! Just joshing. Me so smart aren't I?

Here, try this link for the the upgrade to the 7,500lb hitch like I did. It is the better looking round tube hitch and it fits w/o drilling into your Runner's rear end (butt). Here is the link and it takes about one hour to mount: autoaccessconnect.com/to42cl3trhic.html

It's not the 5000# hitch like the one that came off of a 2003 4runner. It looks like the higher rated hitch that you are attempting to use.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that the hitches from the 3rd gens? Thats whey the holes don't match up. If I were you I would contact whoever sold it to you and get your money back. That will most definitely not fit a 4th gen.

Thanks, will be sending it back and have ordered a 70411 Hidden Hitch instead, hitchfinder.com says they have them in stock.

Got the Hidden Hitch last week, won't be using it now however, we traded in our 04 Sport for an 07 V8 Sport that already had the heavier hitch on it.

Giz, if I'd return it, I'd get back the $154.44 I paid for it and just be out shipping. Since I'd have to pay to send it back anyway, you could have it for that price if you'd want and I'd pay the shipping charges on it.
