What kind of system do I have?

Hey all,

I have the factory single disc/cassette JBL system.

Do I have an amp?

I want to add a small sub and a amp to power it....so I can get more bass and power......can I do this keeping my factory stereo and all speakers in place? I want to still use my steering controls too.

Suggestions?

All you need is a LOC (line out converter) to use an amp with your stock radio.

How many speakers do you have?

10 = 2 per front door, center (4), 1 per rear door (2), 1 each side of rear hatch (2), subwoofer in right rear cargo (1), 1 center of dash (1).

6 = 2 per front door (4), 1 per rear door (2).

If you have 10 speakers and/or you see Synthesis written on the speaker grills and/or you have a "Surround" option in your audio settings, you have a JBL Synthesis system. This means the actual audio processing takes place in the amp/processor attached to the subwoofer enclosure in the cargo area. The connection to the head unit is a digital data only connection. To use a hi-lo converter or amp with speaker level inputs, you'll need to tap into the subwoofer connection after it leaves the amp on its way to the sub driver. This signal will already be lowpassed to complement the other 9 drivers.

I believe the 6 speaker system is wired traditionally with the amp in the head unit so can just splice your hi-lo converter there or tap the speaker leads if you have an amp that accepts speaker level signals. Naturally, you'll need to lowpass this signal to filter out the highs.

LOC = line output converter. Search for that, not "LOC".
