If keep the rig level is important to you then it's a heck of a lot easier to tweak the adjustables.

I don't really plan on adding anything major up front (bumper, winch, etc).

Sounds like you might want to later? You might get a 3/4" - 1" sag if you do add a bumper and winch.

Are the coil overs worth it?
They sure are if you add on over stock and want to be able to fine tune. ARB bumpers are 130lbs and the winch with steel cable is another 70lbs. They are heavy. The Armorology is 85lbs. Synthetic line will shave off another 25 lbs.

With the full OME kit, any suggestions on the shocks? Comfort or normal?
If you will rarely be loading the back then 890s. If you plan to tow a trailer or load up other people or gear then 891s. People cautioned me about the 891s being too stiff if the back is empty but I drove around with an empty cargo for weeks and while it is a little stiffer than the 890s I thought that was an unwarranted warning. The 891s are such a huge improvement over stock. I also realized that when I need the stiffer springs the most is when going camping. It sucks to have your rig loaded up with people or gear and you keep bashing and scraping. I regularly have much more than 250lbs extra on the rear coils. For example: One 5 gal can of gas or water = 45 lbs. hi-lift = 30 lbs, Cooler = 50 lbs, dog = 50 lbs, tools, 85 lbs. It adds up quick.

With the full OME kit, would a diff drop be a good idea?
Yes. And it's very easy to put in.

I went to a loading dock today to check out the suspension lift. Here's what I found:

Driving with my front tire on the ramp I got 25 3/8" of vertical
Driving with my rear tire on the ramp I got 27 5/8" of vertical

RTI Front 704
RTI Rear 767

Not amazing but certainly respectable for IFS. It's nice to break the 700 mark. The numbers are a little rough because there was so much debris on the ground that it made it hard to see when the tire is coming off. Next time I'll run the ramp with my center diff unlocked and that should let the lifted tire spin preventing me from moving any more.

You may think I'm looking at my bumpstops but really I just like my butt to be in the photos.

BTW does anyone know the benefits of using RTI numbers? I still think plain ole verticle number say 27" with the wheelbase 105" is a lot more useful than the RTI score. 27/105 tells me more than 751

Another example. A Jeep with a wheel base of 97 vertical of 27 will score an 813
A 4Runner with the wheel base of 105 and the same vertical of 27 will score a 751.

Why is it an assumed advantage that a shorter wheelbase is better? Maybe I'm just really in need of an RTI 101 class? Or am I missing the purpose of RTI altogether?

Anyone know or have a wild guess?

thanks for you comments Glen. You have convinced me to go with the 891's and the diff drop. Now just have to decide on the coilovers.....

Glen, RTI is something to help the Rock Crawlers have some bragging rights. I have been told by a few different shops that our IFS runners and trucks wont RTI very well but just plain work on majority of what people really off-road on. The shorter wheel base with the same height as in your description means that the vehicle is twisting more in a shorter distance. Another opinion on shorter wheelbase is for break over angle which has nothing to do with RTI scores. After being to a few rock crawling events and Desert Safaris a lot of people prefer a mid range wheel base like the 105-106 of our 4Runners and the TJ Unlimited. More stable at speed and not as tippy when climbing/ descending near verticle.

Even though Ive got a 4th gen now, I had a 3rg gen.... I voted Toyteclifts, for a few reasons: Customer Service, fast shipping, fair prices, great products. Just look them up on other forums....

That 3rd gen was legendary. I say give me the '04 and build up another 3rd gen :lmao:

BTW his 3rd gen is where I got most of my build info from. That thing was sick!

Does anyone think this will be too much lift in the front for the CV's? Toytec OME 881 front with 10mm trim packer inside the coil? This should yield ~3" of lift correct? I don't want to run the topout spacer because I plan on using the n91 shock which is said to already be too long for the coils and can lead to over extension and broken CV's topout spacers only make that problem worse by effectively extending the length of the shock.
For the rear I plan to run the 891's with the OEM rubber bumpstop cone and a 10mm trim packer. This should give me ~3.5" in the rear. Do the 891's give 3" of lift with the cones or without relative to the front?
Basically I'm looking for a slightly raked look, but not to the extent of the SS 1.2 with the LC's in the rear

I run a 3" in front and I don't think it's too much. The two times when I broke CVs was when I was at full stuff, cranked all the way to the driver's side, and got some wheel hop. It's possible to break CVs with a stock suspension doing the same thing. The 891s do provide 3" of lift with the OEM cones. Your plan to add another 10mm/.4" in the rear sounds like a good one. I think you are solid.
