I can't believe Toyota does not make a compass standard equipment. I read some 4R's have a compass in the rear-view mirror, mine doesn't. I'm not going to spend a couple hundred buck for a new mirror just to get a compass. Am I missing something? I have avg. miles per gallon, outside temp, miles to go with remaining gas, but no compass. I do quite a bit of travel and used my chevy's compass consistently, I just can't believe it's not standard. Oh, well. I suppose I could get one of those round ball compasses that people put on their dashboard -- NOT. I'm just venting. Thanks to all.

what's funny is most limited's around here comes with nav, which has a compass on the display. and the display is about 2 feet away from the rear view mirror compass. :arrow:

Just to clarify, you are not only buying a mirror with a compass, you are buying an autodimming mirror as well, which eliminates the glare from the headlights behind you. Right, the autodimming compass mirror was an option on the SR5 and Sport and standard equipment on the Limited. The manufacturer is Gentex. You can purchase one for less than what Toyota would have charged you to have it as an option. Installation is simple.

Yeah, that's funny because I added a Donnelly mirror to my 4Runner, which is auto-dimming with compass and outside temperature display.
I love the auto-dimming feature, but I don't need the outside temp display because our 4Runners already have one standard, and I don't need the compass because I have a navigation system.
So I drive around with the display on my mirror switched off and just use it as an auto-dimming mirror.

You sure did because I bought from two different sellers on ebay. I bought the one you have used and so it didn't come with the wire cover or even the wiring for that matter. I put the wiring on there for you. Did you ever order/install the cover?
