What Oil filter?

I was wondering what oil filter do you guys use? I here alot of people around my town saying that toyota dosnt do well with any thing but a toyota filter. Right now my rig has a Fram filter on it and i personaly hate fram filters. What do you guys think.? Run a Toyota filter, or is there any other filter that you guys use that works good with toyota trucks?

I switched to K&N after the Toyota filters were being made in China. K&N i only change every other oil change.

Wix is another good alternative, but aren't as readily available as some.

I have run NAPA/Wix filters in everything I have owned since 1970--from tractors to a BMW 7-series. On the 4Runner, I ran the NAPA 1348 until the last change. I just switched to the larger and fancier NAPA Platinum PFL 41516 (also made by Wix--this is the Ford Taurus size) to accompany the longer OCI I have been running with synthetic (7500 miles). I'll do a UOA at my next change and see if it makes a difference. I'll report then.

May I suggest it makes a lot more sense if you post your OCI with your filter choice--just about anything works for the 3000mile obsessive-compulsive; the 10K+ crowd needs a serious high performance filter or a mid-term change, IMHO. I'm firmly in the middle.

I do mine every 5000km's and usually use "Motomaster".....it's the Store brand at Canadian Tire. If they are out...I'll buy FRAM. I've used Motomaster filters on all of my cars for the last 14 years.....no issues.

As for one brand over the other....alot of different brands (of any product) are made by the same companies. They just label it theirs...and charge you a different price for them.....

If you ask me...a filter is a filter....just change your oil and filter regularly (as per manufacturer recommendations), and you'll be fine. Those I my 2 cents....take it for what it's worth....

do you have more info on the years and model or engine that the larger filter fits? been looking for a bigger replacement. :hatsoff:

I know the Taurus filters go on all the 5VZ-FE V6 3rd Gens; this has been posted in a lot of places.

Ran K&N on every single car ive owned and never had issues. change oil and filter every 4k. always drains cleaner than normal fluid that ive seen come out of my buddies rides.

I usually use the 15,000 mile Amsoil filter which I change around 8000 miles with the oil.
If they are out of that one I get the K&N oil filter.

I will never run another K&N oil filter. I ran one in my Triumph D675, one the second oil change (3rd oil cycle) it spun a rid bearing. This was in '07, the bike was an '06. After a lot of fighting, Triumph rebuilt the motor under warranty but when I looked into it, I found other owners with the same issue, only common denominator was the K&N oil filters.

That said, I've run Fram Oil Filters on my cars and trucks for the last 20 years with no issues so I still run them. I know most of the people here don't recommend them but I've never had an issue. Much like you guys running K&N's without issue.

I tried a Fram back in the day on my Celica, but the position of the filter and the cheap quality of the Fram (lack of check valve) cause the head to rattle on start up. Every start was like a fresh oil change since the oil would drain from the filter backwards. That was enough for me to stay away from those from there out.

I want to throw this out to anyone it might happen to apply to, since seeing this thread made me think of it:

I installed a 140amp CS 144 alternator into my sister's 1997 4Runner a couple weeks ago. I was running the oversize Purolator PureONE filter (PL20195)....and guess what? An oversize alternator and an oversize filter don't work together. lol

I saw the the filter would NOT be able to be removed once the alternator was fully bolted in, so I just spun the filter off, then installed the alternator. Next day I went to the store and got a stock size filter again. Anywho....don't make the mistake of trying to use an oversize filter if you already have a CS 144 alternator....and don't bolt in a CS 144 with an oversize filter screwed on; it won't come back off!
