What should be a good price for my 2004, Limited Edition V8, 4x4 with third-row seating? Testing the waters to sell it.

2004 Toyota 4Runner V8 4x4 Limited — 7 Passenger / 3rd Row — Clean title California Car

As you know, finding one of these is getting harder and harder. I recently did a nationwide search for a 2004 Toyota 4Runner V8 4x4 with the factory 3rd-row seating, and I couldn't find another one comparable to this one.

This has been a California car its entire life and has never been off-road.

I purchased it from a California dealer in 2020 after the previous owner, who had owned it since new, traded it in. I've owned it ever since. Since purchasing it, I've only put approximately 12,000 miles on it in six years — about 2,000 miles per year.

This has basically been my weekend vehicle. I use it to take my mountain bike or dirt bike to the local mountains in Ventura County. It has never been used for serious off-roading.

Current mileage: 242,000 miles

One of the biggest positives is the documented maintenance that was performed by the previous owner at approximately 200,000 miles:

  • Timing belt
  • Timing belt tensioner
  • Water pump
  • Cam seals
  • Crank seal
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Valve adjustment
  • Spark plugs
The work was approximately $2,200, and I have the receipts.

  • 2UZ-FE V8 engine
  • flow master muffler
  • 3” lift
  • BILSTEIN B8 5100 shocks
  • 33’ BG Goodridge tires, with 17’ bronze rims
  • Bluetooth radio
  • no rust
  • I have both 3rd-row seats, but I only use one

Wow that's an awesome rig

I don't know what you paid for it, but that would be a start, plus the $2200 you invested. As you know, getting your money back on a vehicle is rare.

If you have good documented maintenance on the oil (engine, diff and TC), coolant and transmission fluids, you would have a gem.

Even though you stated it's a California vehicle photos of the frame would get better interest and price estimate, a clean frame is a key selling point of these T4Rs.

Thanks for the input. I’ll definitely make sure to add some frame pics. The frame is clean with no rust.

It’s been a little difficult to price because here in Ventura County, California, I’m seeing quite a few 2004–2007 4Runners in the $12K–$16K range with around 200K miles. The difference is that I haven’t found any with this combination of the V8, 4WD, and factory 3rd-row seating.

I definitely don’t want to overprice it, but considering how clean it is, the configuration, the fact that it’s basically a two-owner 4Runner, and that the timing belt service is documented, I feel like it’s a pretty solid truck.

I just listed it on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist in both the Ventura and San Diego areas for $16,500. We’ll see what kind of interest it gets.

I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes!

While the V8 4X4 combo is a great selling point, the 3rd roll seating is not so much, most people usually remove it so they can have more cargo space, when you gain seating compacity you lose cargo space.

The good thing about this one is that if you need cargo space, you remove the seats. In my case, I usually ride with the Fam, six of us- on the weekends, so it works out great.
