What should I do to my 4runner??

So I have a 99 4runner limited 2wd. I'd like to make it off road ready but I have no idea what I should do. Anyone want to give me some suggestions?

You could always supercharge it, through in a rear locker and make it a sand rail. But realistically if you want to go do real offroading, you will need 4x4.
 
The most effective, and cost-efficient, upgrade would be an Aussie Locker. That'll let you go a lot of places, and if you go with a friend, they can pull you out if you do get stuck.
 
If you just want to be able to get out on some mild trails then go with some good tires. Tires will really help a 2wd out. Then look out for a locker for the back. With those two you could get through a good amount of trails. Just make sure you go with some guys with 4x4 or a winch. Lifts are great, but for mild trails they aren't necessary. Also some skids or sliders will help keep the body from getting some damage.
 
just drive the thing off road, its already capable enough!!!!!

wait did i see that it's a 2WD???

Whats the point of that?!?!!?
 
Love the 4runner but...

Love the 4runner but I do wish they were more in line with Rover being every Rover is 4WD, or Full time 4WD. I understand they cater to that market whereas Rover is a bit different.

personally im glad my 4runner is nothing like a range rover. i was looking at buying a p38 for a while a few years ago, glad i didnt and got a 4runner instead! 4runners are way more reliable and dependable, just as capable cheaper to maintain and easier to work on, less needy.... the list goes on. oh and btw, a 4th gen 4runners traction control system is more advanced than any thing land rover has now... land rovers current TCS(traction control system) is only slightly better than that of our 3rd gens. 3rd gen 4runners have almost every option that the land rovers currently have. -center diff lock/ awd/ read electronic locking diff. the bad part about being a full time 4wd is that it hurts fuel economy and not everyone needs 4wd... but the people who buy land rovers and range rovers typically have more money the common sense so it figures that they would need the 4wd/awd to park in a gravel parking lot or commute to work in the rain...
 
Good tires to start... I'm 2WD and have plenty fun offload... 4WD isn't necessary unless you want to take it up a notch... Just be sure to have friends with a winch

apparently you have not been to norther California, and been over the rubicon, or around tahoe, or the PNW. oregon has every thing from sand dunes to thick forests, and thousands of miles of it all. you can basically drive from california/oregon border to canada, and only travel like 50miles of paved roads. the rest of the time you better have a good rig and a couple of them...

I like that my rover isn't full time 4wd, and it has locking hubs, it doesn't waste extra energy turning a front driveshaft or the axle shafts.
