While the O2 spacer might help eliminate the CEL, I'd keep an eye on fuel trim and MPG in the long run, as I believe Toyota does use the rear O2 sensor for fuel control.
What should my next steps be? P0430 and P0420

For the record, I did this with the old 02 sensors, and then I also tried new ones, and it worked with both. Somebody mentioned above that they thought it only works if you put the spacers on the original 02 sensors, but worked for the originals and new ones in my case. I drove it 100 miles with the old ones, and the light never came back on, and then I replaced them with new 02 and spacers, and drove to the beach yesterday, and light didn't come on. Also I've seen no effects on gas mileage.
IMO this is a great little trick for cars like mine with high mileage where it doesn't make sense to drop a lot of money on a cat. The success rate seems really high on this if the problem is in fact a bad cat.

Just wanted to update...
Put the spacers in 2 days ago and erased the codes.
I have been driving lots since...and when I say lots, my lights usually came back on after 10-15 miles of driving. I have driven over 100 miles in the last 2 days and No lights!
On board computer is also telling me my fuel milage is much better(not sure if that has any relevance to this fix)
I know it has only been a couple days, but my lights always came back on within a half hour of driving.
Will update if anything changes, but as of now...FIXED!!!

P0430 cel
I just bought a '08 4Runner Sport 4.0L 2WD with 142,000 as a play toy on the weekends...it has been in the garage since new and looks like it has 30K miles on it inside and out...but the CEL was on with the P0430 code. So before I spent a dime on it I joined this site and read all of the posts. I've been in the car business all my life, retired now, so I am well aware of the good, bad and ugly of service departments. After reading all the posts this was my line of attack.... the 4Runner hasn't been to a Toyota dealer since 2010 so I took it to the Toyota dealer to 'flash the computer' and buy a gas cap...no one knew exactly what that meant but all agreed when they hooked up the Dealership computer that it would read the software and update it with all the updates,,,so they did, came back with me needing a left hand cat :lol: appx. $1,000/$1.250 I thanked them, paid them for the flashing ($40) and the gas cap and left, 35 miles later CEL back on. Then took it to my mechanic and cleaned the Mass Air Flow and Throttle body, new spark plugs, air filter, PCV valve and reset the CEL. 30 miles or so CEL back on. Every thing I've done so far I would of done CEL or not,,, so now I purchased two Denso downstream Oxygen Sensors and installed them and reset the CEL for the third time....it's now been 500 miles and no CEL. Runs perfectly smooth, no vibration at all on idle and gets about 375 miles on 18 gallons of gas...oh, I also flushed out the 'lifetime' transmission fluid (black), flushed the power steering fluid (black)and the rear end as well... shifts perfect, power steering is quite and smooth as is the rear end. Drives almost like a new one it feels,,,,Toyota 4Runners are

the downstream 02 sensors fixed my 08 as well, cats are GOOD, sensors were worn out

Awesome, thanks for the Intel, will do that next. The CEL inspired me to buy an OBD reader to reset the codes, which is handy because the traction control gets dropped with the CEL.

I have 05 t4r v6 with the same codes at first i had a P0430 code and i replaced both of my o2 sensors no cel came on for a while but after putting on 2k miles the light came on but this time it was p0430 and p0420 both of these codes are for the catalytic converter I'm going to end up replacing both cats and i think you should too
Just as an FYI, and hopefully this helps someone else.
I have a '08 V8 4WD 4Runner that was giving me the P0430 code. I've read both that it is on the driver's side and passenger side, but most seemed confident that it was a driver's side issue on the V8. Wrong.
I tried everything on the driver's side: new O2 sensors, new PCV valve, anti-fouler plug, etc., but nothing worked. The code kept coming back, more frequently, and eventually within a day or two each time of clearing the codes.
I finally tried the shop-vac blowing into the tailpipe trick to find exhaust leaks and found a large one between the cat and downstream O2 sensor on the passenger side. Got that exhaust leak fixed and the code hasn't been back.
TLDR: On a V8, the P0430 is a PASSENGER side cat/sensor issue.

so had these p0430 and p0420 codes for about a year now. decided to try an experiment. installed a spacer on bank 1 sensor...and used toilet cleaning liquid to soak and wash bank 2 sensor. have driven over 200miles and the MIL codes are gone!.....meanwhile my mechanic had already prepped me for a CAT replaced, before i decided to give the mod a shot
