What size wire for dual battery set up?

you/ll probably want to go with the "big 3" mod. Also read through BigFishAllDay's thread, he covers it pretty well.
 
id say go with something like 2 or 4awg wire, look at what is stock(not sure of the top of my head) and then go one size bigger(just to be safe and give you a little cushion) when i do my remote dual deep cycles im gonna run 00awg wire, but thats only cause im going to be running the entire length of the truck.
 
hey wait till i get back i have access to some heavy duty oil and sub zero temp resistant heavy gauge i stuff can give you a few small leads to run the second battery, maybe overkill but overkill is good!
 
kid, dude dude dude, that's fubar, i switched boxes as the first one was to small, they must have been chucked by accident, i will source and buy you some replacements from my own pocket, this whole thing i feel has become a nightmare, i feel terrible about fubaring this whole situation, i get back on teh 9th and will sort it out asap, sorry sorry sorry......
 
I picked up some 4AWG for now. If I'm not happy with it I can always switch it to 2 later. I was debating on going with 2 or 4 and after reading in multiple spots that 4 is plenty big enough I went ahead and bit the bullet and finally bought some 4AWG.
 
Good luck with the dual battery setup. Mine has been working for a couple years with no issues at all. It takes some work, but is relatively inexpensive.

Where are you going to mount your second battery. I have both in the stock location
 
4 gauge is working great for mine. only time i could see a potential problem would be heavy winching for a long period of time.
 
That's good to know that the 4 gauge is working. I've been wanting to put it in for a while and had the stuff just haven't had a solid chance till now. And the main reason is for winching. I pulled a k5 blazer out the other day and my battery light came on cuz of it.

And thanks for the offer for wire izz. I might take you up on the offer if the 4 isn't good enough.

no worries man lol its all good, dont feel bad, i havent even thought about putting on that mirror. i blew out my back on friday so im like a gimp right now so even if i did have them they wouldnt be going on the truck anytime soon... hope your trip is going good!

cool no worries man, dual batteries rock i got one in my bus and it kills! you getting a monitor and a switch to go with that right? i recommend the marine style acr/ VSR if you splash out for it

is the one i bought i run my 2000w inverter for days then combine the two batteries and get going.....these are night with the switch so you can choose to run in tendem or isloated and you shouldn't get any voltage drop to any of your accessories either when starting the engine with one of these systems, my setup might be a bit different compared to the runner because i'm powering coffee makers,laptops,boom boxes and charging everyone ipads and ect for them when we are "roughing it" lol

then again a simple $12 continuous duty solenoid did the job for a few years before that just fine..even though it did die on me once!

That is impressive....

I already got the national luna setup in the garage waiting to go in with the monitor/ controller so I can control whats going on. I looked into the blue sea ones to I think, for what ever reason ,not sure why exactly, I went with the luna.

What kind of van do you have? Got a pic? I have been joking around with the wife about my next vehicle being a van to make 4x4 and just a monster overlander. She just says its creepy and thats the end of it.. Little does she know that I'm 98% serious about it.

4 guage wire

Probably a silly question but, any good sources for oxygen free 4ga wire? Planning on doing "big 3" from bI]bigfish's[/I] write up. I looked on amazon yesterday for a moment; lots of options but once you start reading reviews you can't seem to trust a lot of the specs.:ybrick:
