What Size Wire Gauge In A 3rd Gen 4Runner?

What size wire gauge is used in the inside of a 3rd Gen? Buying T-Taps and the one I'm looking is for 18-22awg wire...should I be fine? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think i ran all my wiring with 14awg. Probably more than needed but i didn't want any wires to burn up if there was a short.

What exactly are you trying to tap in the cab? Most of the wiring under the dash is somewhere between 18-20 ga.

Im about to do dome footwell lighting that only comes on when the doors are opened.

Then the 18-22 ga ones are the ones you want. Just make sure that if you mess with the switch in the door jamb that you are really careful taking it apart because the springs under the plastic cap in there are easy to lose.

I plan on using the white with black striped wire under the door sills for the ground (the door trigger) and getting the constant power from the domelight circuit behind the cluster. I'll be sure to do a full write up, trying to make it easy as possible for the TR4.org community.

The wire gauge used depends on the amount of current drawn by the load (whatever you are controlling). For example the wiring to the heater blower motor will be a lot heavier than that to the dome light. When adding on to a circuit, never go heavier than the existing wire. In your case, 18-22 should be fine (unless you're lighting your footwells like a stadium). And the color of the wire doesn't matter.

I'm not a fan of TTaps they tend to fail. I would do a military splice, with a zip tie over the tape for good measure.

I think I'll be fine with t-taps, going to use the t-taps with male connector spade....should good...used it many times with no issues.

Ive worked in car audio and security for a few years. and have had to repair quit a few installs done with TTaps. They can damage wires when installed and with vibration over time can actually cut the wire. On the other hand Ive seen installs with TTaps that have never had problems. When I first started installing I didn't like the idea of military splicing wire seamed kinda geto, but after years of repairs I have changed my thoughts on it.

According to directechs the wire should be lt. green/black stripe it doesn't give a location I haven't looked at the door switch on my 4runner yet so it could be in the kick or the seal plate. And it only gives me the drive front door so you shouldn't have to go to all the doors, but test it out first. Come to think of it I have some LED strips I might have to look into this.
