What to do ? Dealer Caused Paint Damage Front End

I used to loose sleep over these kind of things when my vehicle was new. Mine still looks very good but my hood does have some small chips after 5 years of driving. No mater how good they fix it you will eventually get chips again. Let the dealer do their repair and hope it looks good enough to you. I just use touch up paint on my chips. Yes it is slightly noticeable but I realize that there are going to be many more chips in the future.

I second this.Toyota's paint sucks and you will get more chips down the road.I also have Barcelona red and just about every week I am touching up a fresh paint chip.

Super clear cut issue. Forgot to add, the 4runner was in their possession for about a week while they fixed my KDSS. It was only when I went to pick it back up I noticed. They also do a walk around iPad vid of all vehicles when you drop it off and the damage was not visible in the video so dealer accepts it's on them.

The question is should I just accept them having a body shop repair / partially paint the hood and ordering two new grille pieces (garnish & top body color panel) or should I involve a regional or national toyota rep? It's not like just buffing out scratches. The actual paint is gone, down to base metal.

To make matters worse, it was actually the service tech's fault my 4runner needed to go back in for kDss repair. When they replaced my front bushing at <1K miles, the tech didn't properly secure the front strut/shock. So it was shimmying around for 2K miles which then made itself known by actually tearing open the bushing under the kDss valve. Hence the second repair job

Might not hurt to ask for a no cost Toyota bug/stone deflector. I wouldn't expect it but ask till they say no.

Bringing this thread to a close. I actually already had the bug/stone deflector on which is probably why the deep chips happened so far up the hood and not lower down. Just picked her up today after a long stint borrowing the dealers Rav4 go cart. I stayed calm throughout the whole thing and kept this within the local dealership to handle. They went above and beyond!! However, I was prepared to biiitch moan to regional / national if I needed to.

They sent it out to a body shop after it proved too deep for their "touch up guy" to handle. Entire hood was repainted, new upper grill and Toyota garnish replaced. Probably $2k on their end. Really thankful they didn't resist and turned this bad luck situation into a happy resolution on my end.

P.S. Also happened to work in a cost deal for that fancy new TRD side exit muffler

Majority of the time, reasonable people get reasonable resolutions.

It’s about as good a resolution as I would have expected…

I would have been ok with this if it was my truck... but I also drive though brush when off-road with absolutely no regard for my paint.

I take terrible care of my paint lol.

i dont baby mine for sure.
its a tool. not some street queen.
i wash it once a month... maybe.
4runners are best washed with desert dust and cactus/cholla needles

Just curious if every 4runner driver door inside / fender flare area isn't painted fully. Basically the area where the door hinges into the body. Mine appears white grey primed but not fully Red like the rest of the metal. Normal ? or did shop do something crazy while blending hood / fenders

Yep, lose the OCD complex. Focus on what matters. It’s a depreciating asset and road chips don’t matter.
