so for 2wd, i was also looking at the toytec 3" lift. This was because i have a 2wd but was going more for the look.
but i was reading through this thread and realized maybe i dont need that expensive of a lift? what would you guys recommend? the daystar 2.5s? where can i get those and how much? also what size tire will i be able to fit after those?

btw i dont know if this makes a difference but i have about a 4-500 pound sound system in the back so it sags quite a bit HAHA

what? 4-500 lbs?! Even MTX jackhammers only weigh like 250... what do you have back there? a live mariachi band?

those are just stock 16" alloy Toyota rims that my friend (who happens to own a powder coating shop, I know, I'm blessed : ). He gave them a double coat of satin black.

ok so first off toytec lift is amazing on a 2wd... i have it and love it though it does ride kinda rough.
U can use the daystar or something like it but u have to give the fact that ur 4runner is older and prob has began to sag in the front and rear (mine wasnt) but i figured y not replace it all at once instead of getting spacers then having to change the coils later down the line.
If u do decide to get coil spacers make sure u get longer shocks bc my friend tried to do it the cheap way on a jeep and broke a shock from too much flex popping the curb. If ur set on getting the spacers u can get some at fatbobsgarage.com. I was gonna buy these a while back but ended up going with the OME.
Once u get a lift either the OME or the spacers ull be able to run 265/75s or 285/75s depending upon the overall height and if ull partially rub. If so u need more lift or have to be willing to cut/hammer some of the runner.
The toytec OME lift is great especially if ur running heavy weight in the rear bc i have 2 12" subs in a ported box and had my spare tireon there without sag... The medium coils are meant to hold up with alot of weight on them

Ud have to look at wat u need and purchase accordingly... I have the 882s in the front and the 891s in the rear. They are meant to have at least 100lbs of extra weight on them but i chose this bc i have the brush guard and subs in the back and plan on getting a roof basket of some sort.

So u put a locker on the rears? hows that workin out for ya so far? thought but it but im not exactly sure if i really wanna spend my money on that when i can get other stuff i feel more important. Love to hear ur opinion on these for a 2wd.
Well said. I think its funny when ppl bash 2wd runners bc most of the time ull be with friends anyways... who offroads/muds alone?! thats so freakin boring!

So far so good, yes in the rear. I had the samething in the rear of my Tundra and loved it to death. Haven't done much in the 4runner since Im still on stock 15's with some road tires.
Just waiting to get some A/T's for my BBS 18's I have sitting in the back. A handfull of friends have 2wd locker'd up trucks. Nismo frontier and a few taco's. They go alot of places the 4wd's go thru.
The locker does take time getting use to in the rain but for towing, boat launches, trail runs, and so on its great!
The reason I bought mine was for camping and not tearing up the yard when it gets wet.

I was in almost the same situation as you. I had a 99 limited 2wd and I after spending a lot of time thinking about what to do with it I realized that I would never be happy with a 2wd. So, I flew to Phoenix, bought my 97 SR5 4WD and I couldn't be happier. But, to each his own. Some of the most fun off road experiences I've had have been in 2WD's out in the desert. You can certainly turn your truck into a fun daily with considerable off road prowess.

Don't under estimate your Runners ability, I have took mine through mud, sand dunes, snow and etc. in the last 5 years and overall my Runner did good taking on the challenges it faced in various situations.
2wd Runner will have its weak points in soft sand and various terrain but overall if you pick a good line you can over come whatever you face plus your usually with a buddy with 4wd that can always get you unstuck. :bigok:

Yes!
It locks up the rear end and transfers power equally to both of the rear wheels.
