What Type of Tires On Your 4Runner?

It's all happens in following way: First you think that you have new stock H/T tire and it's ok. Then you start going out of the road or start experience severe bad weather, and you upgrading your tires to A/T. Now you have A/T and you think why not to go off-roading, you going on some trail and finding a mudhole. At this point you've realized that you need something with more traction; so you getting M/T. Having M/T giving way to go in hard trails. I've passed all above steps except the last. I'm shopping for GY MT/R. Just my 2c

How are the Revos compared the the X Terrains which I think I have on my 3rd Gen right now for street driving? My dad said he could get discounts on tires because one of his patients could get him good deals on tires and if he could maybe get the Revos for cheap it would be great for me, but I dont know how hey do on regular road in terms of noise and such compared the the X Terrains

TechWrench, can you post a picture of those steel wheels on your truck? I am interested to see what they look like on an actual 4Runner. I remember reading the Toyota website and seeing the 16'' steel wheels with wheel covers standard on the SR5, but I thought it was an error. Every 4Runner I see has alloys.

I got my Cross-Terrains last Aug for just under $600 installed at Costco. I love them. I know all you hear about on these forums are the Revos, but really, I think overall the Cross-Terrain is better for a couple of reasons. They are both close in price, but I found everywhere that the CT's are a little cheaper. They handle better/just as good in most conditions and they have a better mileage rating by 10K. Don't get me wrong, the Revo's are great tires, but for 70% or so of the people on this board, I'd say they the CT's are just fine. They still off road fine, but if that's what you are focused on, then the Revos are the way to go. Or.. If it snows constantly where you live, then Revos, but I was surprised at the CT's last month....handled quite well in snow. I just had to stick up for them because Revos is all I hear about. I have driven trucks with both (on and off road) and thats what I picked....Just my opinion

Stock 265/65/17 Dunlop AT20s here, with about 9k on them. I actually feel unsafe at highway speeds in a heavy rain. 
I am itching to replace them with something before I head up the mountain this winter, but picking the right tire is so hard!
I suspect I'll just end up buying a pair of chains to carry along in case things get hairy.

LT rated, 6 ply, snow flake severe weather rated.
Revo may be better on road and in all season, but BFG is the best all around tire and the toughest tire to boot.
BFG ain't a lo-pro high speed sport truck tire. So don't complaint when it does not corner like one. Don't complain when it does not behave at high speeds like one either. It ain't a true rain tire, so don't drive like a maniac in torrential downpours. It will get you there; just drive with common sense. It ain't a mudder so don't complaint when it clogs up a bit.
But....when it comes to driving out in the boonies, taking punishment that would shred other tires, being able to get you back and forth to work on the asphalt concrete without noise or rumble, give journeyman traction across the widest variety of surfaces, last and last.....and the most thoroughly tested and longest track record of satisfied customers.....BFG.

My Limited came with the Dunlops, which had I been reading this forum at that time, I would have demanded and upgrade.
Agree on the Mich. CTs. Just got a set of them on our Lexus, and they handled wonderfully in the few small snow storms we had.
It'll be a tough call between them and the Revos when I decide to upgrade. Not sure of the prices on each in my area, but if they are close, I'll probably go with the Revos. If not, I'll be happy with the CTs.

Go with the Revos.
I think you will be much happier with the Revos. They have so much more ability in foul weather than the CT. CTs are really good tires, but if you encounter rain and snow, Revos are great.
Toyo Open Country A/T are good too. I had a set and they felt very nice. Unfortuantely, they don't come in C load or 3 ply sidewalls. They are either P load or LT/E load--way too heavy for a Runner. But they work very well in snow nad rain and quite responsive on road conditions too.
I would have gotten either the Revos or the Toyos but I also wanted the confidence of LT 6 ply rated tires. I drove across the Nevada desert in November to the Berlin Ichtyasaur State park. That's 3 hours east of Reno. Across blowing snow storms, across miles of empty wasteland, mile and miles of dirt track in the blowing storm up and down washbaords wet with slush nad mud holes. Finally made it to the park where th ranger said anyone brave or foolish enough to come up in this weather deserves a guided toru. So I followed the ranger up and down snow covered switchbacks. No worries with the BFG. Solid traction. Solid performance. They do hold rocks and pebbles in the tread...
Come summer, I plan to cros more desert, across some blistering heat in the Mojave in Calfifornia or Sonoran desert in Arizona or New Mexiso....across dirt tracks and broken shale nad gravel roads......maybe up through Colorado to see the Anazazi communiites in Mesa Verde....going over cactus strewn sideroads for mining camps and old western relics....
That's what BFG is for.......

I bought them for the price, and I didn't want to mess around with a wheel that might not be the correct offset. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they went with the Titanium. They are not a good as the alloys, but for what they cost, I can live with that. Also, because they are 16"s, I could go with a 275/70 with no clearance problems, and they are only slightly larger in diameter than the OEM H/T 17s, so no speedometer issues. All in all, they work for me.

Don't take this the wrong way (It's just my opinion) but the REVO does everything better then the KO except off-road abuse. You have to remember the REVOs on the 4th gen 4Runners are PASSENGER rated tires. I have a set of REVO LTs on my Taco and the construction is just like the KOs, much heavier and tougher. I've had the BFGs and I can tell you the LT rated REVOs are just as durable as the KOs and still have all the good features of the passenger rated REVOs. The REVO is FAR superior in bad weather, which outweighs the tougher construction of the KOs. The biggest difference between the KOs and the REVOs is on-road bad weather traction and overall ride & handling. Once you have a set of REVOs all the others just seem ordinary. I can't wait till the REVO LTs are available for the 4Runner.

The REVOs that are offered for the 4th gen T4R (265/65+70/17s) are passenger P rated tires. Soon the 265/70/17 Light Truck (E load range & have the same dementions as the 265/65/17 P rated) will be available.
P265/70/17 = 31.7" diameter - 7.8" tread width - 13/32 tread depth
P265/65/17 = 30.5" diameter - 8" tread width - 13/32" tread depth
LT265/70/17 = 31.6" diameter - 8.2 tread width - 1/2" tread depth - E load rating (10 ply)- more aggressive tread pattern - side wall that extends to propect the rims from rock damage.
I will be getting the LTs because I will be towing and could use the stiffer ride and its ability to handle heavier loads better.
